It is gay pride week, please dont take this the wrong way, this is not an attack on alternative lifestlyes. Any way the newly rebuilt 35w bridge (the one that fell into the river killing 13 people) was lite up in rainbow colors to mark the occasion. I am sure many took offense to this based on disaproval of the life style. I believe that is amplified by the fact that the whole sight is considered a memorial to those that where lost. What angers me is that someone got permission from some government agency that approved the display knowing some would take offense and this is just fine, but let me try to get approval to project a cross on the brige at easter time and I would be turned down because it would be seen as the government sponsoring a religion, and that might offend someone. So acknowleging (on government property) what a couple of dudes (maybe 5% of the population)do in bed is ok, acknowleging a god, whom well over 50% of our population believe in is a no-no. how did we get here, or am I the only one that is worried about this. There does not seem to be any local back lash to this.

I wish the Gays had the right to just SHUT UP and keep to themselves instead of throwing it in everyone's face. Kinda like jet skis nobody is impressed nobody wants them around.

As a Christian I know what I believe......and it may open another HUGE can of worms and I'm sure Phosphor will pipe up but it is the fact that we've have pushed God out of so many things that this country was founded upon... Holiday Trees, Winter Concerts, Holiday Wrapping etc...
Sexual and violent situations on free TV. All I ever saw was Kojak lifting up a sheet...nude people all over the place. Kids wearing their pants on the ground showing their boxers. Offensive bumper stickers...(Never saw Betty Boop urinating on _____ on a old Ford), Violent video games that kids are playing , F-bombs all over the place in movies. Bill Cosby, Jonathon Winters make me laugh so hard I'm in tears and not one curse word in there acts. Is Chris Rock even funny w/o cursing? Prob not... the list goes on and on. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I'm in the office of Human Resources because somebody sneezed and I said "Bless You" and someone didn't like it. I for one pray everyday that we wake up, really on Him more and turn this country around for the sake of our kids. |

Tim, you're right on everything, but I don't ever see us going back. I live in a city where anything alternative is openly accepted as embracing diversity and anything traditional is shunned. Somehow anything traditional isn't acceted under the diversity tent. I don't see the trend changing around here.

The rest of the developed world is way more liberal on all these topics than america, we are in fact considered prudes and puritanical. The other side of the isle is the muslim sharia law run states where the woman have to cover themselves head to do and if you dont pray in the right direction when they tell you to someone is gonna get caned. I for one think we strike a pretty decent balance. This country was founded on seperation of church and state.. under god. One of the main reasons for the government to exist is to protect your freedom to worship whatever and however you want and that simply cant' be done if the governement shows any preference for any religion. Regardless of whether it is practiced by the majority of the country, or founding fathers or premium inboard boat owners. Now as far as blacks, gays, jews, puerto ricans, women, iowans, arabs, chinese, or whatever groups getting a permit and putting up some decorations on public propery .. I can't complain when I regularly do the same to advertize for an irish fest, or st patricks day parade.

I don't mind the diversity, it just needs to be a 2 way street. Our schools have over 30 languages spoken in them and are very sensitive towards the LGBT folks. My kids have been exposed to more diversity than I was, that's for sure. Joe, it always shows that you are well travelled.

If we are so sophisticated why is it that I can push a button on my TV and get any channel in Spanish but I can't get the Spanish channel in English?

I feel sorry for the good peps in Minnesotta that they have to look at this as they drive by. It is the fking liberal bstrds being trying to seperate God and state for ever. They go ahead and live that style, but it is unaccepted to man upstairs. God did not create Bill and d*ck to slam meat and not create life. He created a man and a women for a reason. God help there souls.

I like the Iowan reference, putting them in a separate ethnic group, pretty funny.
Skicat, so are you against the founding fathers? They are the ones that demanded the separation of Church and State, it's one the the basic founding principles of the United States. I think they did a pretty amazing job and I'm proud to live under the constitution they created. |

"Congess shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise therof...."
The ACLU and the courts have done a pretty good job of prohibiting the free exercise of Christianity. |

You beat me to it. The phrase "seperation of church and state" came from a decision by Judge Hugo Black (democrat) in 1947 based on a reference to a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802, a full 40 myears after the constitution was founded. Jeffersons interpretation of the "wall " between church and state put the wall between the federal governmnet and the state/ Churches, not local government. The founders were upset at the power and persacution the resulted from the ties betwewen the Church of England and the government. As we know power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutly. As the above quote from the constitution illustrates the founders did not say anything about religion influencing politics, they only referenced Government establishing (Dictating) a religion, or prohibiting the free exercise of a religion. (Like banning a religious symbol or prayer on government property.) |

When did we all become a bunch of sissies scared to stand up for what we believe in for fear that we might "offend" anybody? I am all about embracing my heritage and passing down my family traditions to the next generation. Yes I am southern. Yes I have relatives that fought and died for the Confederate States of America. But before that I had family that fought and died freeing this country in the Revolutionary war, so by God I am an American.
We should not be ashamed of our past or our heritage. If I was African, Chinese, or Mexican I would be proud of that too. I just happen to be a good old fashioned American mutt that does not have as strong of roots in the old world because I come from a variety of backgrounds. Be proud of who you are- that is what being an American is all about. That is what made us who we are and that is the only thing that can keep us together. |

Been a while. Checked this site out today and I came across this post. WOW. You are really talking out your arse. You really have no idea what your talking about, just bringing your blind faith into it and a way for you to proselytize. Try and do some independent research. I know you don't have much of an open mind but give it a shot. Less than 1% of the prison population are atheists. 70% are Christian! Look at the most secular countries in the world and you will notice that they have MUCH lower crime rates. According to the United Nations’ Human Development Report (2005), the most atheistic societies—countries like Norway, Iceland, Australia, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the United Kingdom—are actually the healthiest, as indicated by measures of life expectancy, adult literacy, per-capita income, educational attainment, gender equality, homicide rate, and infant mortality. Conversely, the fifty nations now ranked lowest by the UN in terms of human development are unwaveringly religious. How about education? |
