Inaccurate gas guage

This is a stock gauge on a '99 AN/SN. Gauge reads pretty close to accurate on a full take. Any sort of fuel burn, and it quickly reads empty. A bit of fluctuation with the pitch of the boat and fuel sloshing. Where is the first place to look and trouble shoot?
