I have 5 gal metal drum like the ones in the old jeeps I use to carry fuel for the boat.
Lately we are having issues donw here for getting any king of fuel (diesel included) and as I´m hitting the road on friday, I wanted to take some diesel just in case I don´t make, probably the road gas station will have long lines of cars waiting to load.
My question is can I cross the usage of different fuels in the same can? or I need to clean them someway so the don´t spoil?

Kapla, I have always heard that minimal amounts of gas will be tolerated by a diesel, the other way around causes more problems. In 1987 the ford ambulance converions all went from gas to diesel. We had a mixed fleet for about the next 6 years, leading to misfuel incidents. we were told a few gallons of gas in a diesel could be run through. If any quantity of diesel knowingly went into a gas truck they were towed and drained. I am not sure about a few teaspoons left in a gas can though. I once (only once) put 15 gallons of gas in a diesel before I noticed what I did. The garage was not happy with me having to dipose of 30 gallons of mixed fuel. I had a paramedic co-worker top off a diesel with gas and run it. Destroyed a $5000 engine, to make matters worse he left the boss a voicemail saying lifes were placed at risk due to poor maintanece, said someone should be disciplined and then went out of town for two weeks. They figured it out and where waiting for him in the office his first day back. They let him vent and asked for suggestions of what to do to the guilty party. He left the office in tears.
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

I know several people that mix small amounts of gas in their diesel pickups with no issues - use it kind of like an octane booster. (I dont personally do this).

Like David said, diesel in a gas burner is a different story, but I cant see reusing an empty diesel container for gas - especially if you have a full tank otherwise in the boat - causing any harm. It shouldnt be any worse than having water / moisture in the gas tank.
