My friend is helping me rebuild the carbeurator which is now completed and along with new spark plugs we need to replace the plug wires and impeller. Does anyone know how to find spark plug wires for a 351 Ford with a points distributor? I need to know the best brand to use and part number so I don't have to go to the boat store and pay a load of money.
On another note what would you recommend to replace the points distributor with that would be better performing and less costly to maintain? Thanks, and any information would be greatly appreciated! |

weird, welcome to the site. I am not sure on the spark plug wires, but if you do a search, you can probably find what you're looking for. Boat DR and his MRS. support the site and could probably get you a set if you're willing to wait for the USPS. The distributor question has been discussed at length, Most of the original guys suggest that you keep your distributor, easy to maintain, and reasonably reliable. The electronic ignition upgrade is costly, and when they malfunction, your stuck. not like you can throw a set of points at your electronic while you're on the water. Can you elaborate on the "costly to maintain" part? I was under the impression that points are only a few dollars, and don't really go bad much.

My friend is a mechanic and after we went to advance autoparts and looked through the books and computer extensively we went back to the late 60's, 70's and new to find that motor with the distributor but Ford vehicles didn't come with a points distributor so the blugs are not 90 degrees on the distributor end just realy long. So, I get the feeling that I need to go to a boat dealer and have them look up pleasurecraft V8 motors to see based on this points distributor who makes the correct plug. We thought maybe it would be better to have electronic but maybe not considering what everyone is saying on the posts. Thanks for the phone number and input!
