I have a 54" X 1" shaft tapered on one end that looks good. Came out of a 88 Martinique with 300 hours.

Thanks Sam57,
I will have to get out my tape measure and see if that will fit. I have a funny feeling its 1" 1/8 But not sure. 54" sounds about right. So if it fits what are you looking to get for it? |

Sam, was that Martinique a big block or a small block? Not sure if it would make a difference or not. Our '79 (454) had a 1"x41" shaft. That is also what N3 lists for all Martiniques and BFN's from '79-90.
1"x41" shaft at N3Boatworks If you cant find a used shaft that is guaranteed to be straight for a reasonable price ($100ish) then I would spring for a dual taper ARE. You can get one from SkiDIM for $300. |

Tim,
The shaft from the 1988 Martinique is 54" X 1". The engine was a 351 PCM. The vee-bottom Martinique made from 1980 - 83 is a different boat entirely, it used, I believe, the same hull as a Barefoot with a different deck. Sam Big John, I think the 54" shaft may be too long for your boat, but I have a 40" X 1" tapered one end that may be the one you need. If you need longer than 40" but shorter than 54", it's a simple matter to have the 54" cut to the needed length and a key-way cut in by a machine shop. I want $125 plus shipping for either one Sam |

Sam, youre correct that the 80-83 Martinique uses the same hull as the 79-90 BFN. I realize that the 86+ Martinique is a different hull (1' longer) but its still a v-hull and shares many design similarities to the direct drive BFN- so it would not surprise me if the same driveline parts were used. The online parts catalogs have been wrong before but thats what they seem to imply. Its just a guess, but I wouldnt be surprised if the small block boats and big block boats used different shaft lengths... the big blocks are quite a bit longer, and the 72c may be a bit longer than the 71c as well... I know the bellhousing in our BFN is within 1/2" of the hull. That 54" shaft is the same length as a 2001 (small block). It would be interesting to know what shaft length the small block BFN's used.
John, be sure to measure carefully... we ended up shortening our 41" shaft by 1-1/2" in order to minimize the strut to prop clearance, so theres a chance a 40" *should* fit on your boat... but we changed around our stringer height, engine mount locations, etc- so ours is bad example to follow. The catalog clearly calls out for a 41" shaft, so be sure a 40" will work before you buy one. |
