Just got my 84 SN weighed over the weekend. 2880 lbs...
Assuming I have about 115 lbs of gas in the tank (more than an assumption, I used a dip stick and calculated it), then a boat that is supposed to weigh 2400 lbs is actually about 2765.
Of course it is hard to tell how accurate 2400 lbs in their brochure is, and what configuration it was when weighed, but mine is 15% higher than the stated weight.
I knew I'd be scooping foam out this winter; let's see if it is actually 350+ lbs worth of wet foam.

Update: I started digging this weekend and found... very slightly damp foam. I haven't gotten through nearly enough but what I did see was dry on the inside and bottom, and just slightly damp on the top. Certainly not saturated or holding water.

Now the extra weight... maybe it is the 3/4" plywood all over. It looks like a P.O. must have replaced the floor at one point, and re-foamed. The floor seems to be 3/4" ply all over with a few layers of glass on top. The glass is in rough shape in some areas.

Am I correct in thinking there shouldn't have been any plywood on the floor of this 84 2001?


Here is what I started to remove.
A: This was all 3/4" ply. The void here is not what I removed, there just wasn't foam there. Maybe the PO sprayed it in and didn't get it all filled?
B: This was all dry with just a damp top.
C: More "mostly dry" foam covered in 3/4" ply.
D: This is 1/4" marine ply here with several layers of glass.


This just doesn't look like they'd use this ply and those nails from the factory.


Good thing I have a dry, heated warehouse to do this work in!

So, whatcha think?

This weekend I will be doing some serious digging!

The dry foam and dual battery boxes concur with the 3/4" ply; someone else has been in there. The factory did use some 3/4 ply for anchoring things(seats,etc). It wasn't a solid covering though, on my 88. One great clue to follow is the pink/red glass CC used.

Whoever belongs to that nice warehouse is hoping you do your grinding outside.

Greg - I'm just trailering the boat there on the weekends to get some work done (while there is no snow) and am certainly going to keep it clean!
This weekend I hope to have an answer to my "drain to nowhere". Now it is becoming more clear... maybe this "cooler" was done by the PO and they forgot to hook up the drain?

The jury is still out on the wood and foam, but nothing I see screams "previously repaired". The dual battery boxes would have been factory. The glass over the floor (covered in gel and carpet residue) looks factory as well.

The first day out on the river this year, my boat was parked at the launch while I was out on my friend's boat. I came back and there was a note on my windshield. It read something like "I used to own this boat! I replaced the carpet. Give me a call". I called a few times but never heard back from the guy. I'm going to dig up his number and try again this week. I think he's a Malibu owner now.
When he wrote "carpet" that's what I assumed, and figured he would have mentioned "floor" if that was really the case.

LOL I don't know... I believe it is plywood all the way back behind the driver's seat. I will know for sure on Saturday.

Also, that foam that I pointed to at B does not look poured; it definitely looks sprayed to me.

The other thing is, everybody says the right battery is the 64N group. There is no way that battery fits in my battery box. It is just too tall.

Who is everyone?   Because Ive never heard that before.

The correct size is a Group 65.

Right... I read 64N today on another topic. But when I was looking, I looked at the 65s and they would not fit.
