Problem solving 101...Just interested in what others think and what you might come up with!!!

How would you solve this issue? In reality it has been solved ...however I am wondering what the rest of you who wish to contribute would have done it!

Problem....beached inboard.
Details...
1)inboard boat...Mc prostar(1984)
2)wieght=2800 lbs & full tank of gas
3)Boat was on sand bar...20 feet from where it entered.( too fast , too dark out)
4)other side of bar is about 20 feet to water...but is very shallow for about 200 yards.
5)the entry point where the boat traveled from ...is the deepest water around the bar...10 feet from the the bar is waist high and @ 20 feet out is over my head!
6)sand is semi soft with clay about a foot under it.

And just to be difficult...the Army corp. of enginers say's no digging...indian burial grounds (not that it would have stopped me)

There are three marina's on the lake....two were clueless...one said we can do it in two weeks at a painfull price...I knew I had to go it alone!

my oldest son suggested digging out under the hull and placing his body under the boat with feet sticking out...call 911 for an air lift...hint..we did not do that!

A famous 1972 nuatique once owned by Fred Krueger Senior (father of freddy...world champ jumper!)Was involved in the rescue!!!That boat is now owned by Brian Whitfield...and is one killer ride!(gotta get him to get that boat on the site)

So...lets have fun here and see if anyone figures out how we did it!

Boat...is fine now and suffered only minimal damage!(prop and minor gel work)

As for the rest of you guy's...don't bash me to hard for owning a MC...I have always liked the stars and stipes MC's and mine has been a great running boat! Lighten the load....siphone out the fuel, remove the seats and anything else you can. Then put inflatable under the swim platform...then float it out.

Backhallpass...True can't go forward!We had to go out the way it went in. Fins where dug into clay...the prop spun though 20 feet of sand/dirt until we came to rest and I turned the engine off! My wife sitting next to me was wearing our cooler ...ice, drinks and all...I think she was sort of pissed! Good point about the towing staps...a break could kill! We did bring down some very hravy staps (50 & 100 footers)

David F...you are thinking along the right lines!Keep in mind though the boat was dry locked and needed to move 20 feet before finding water!We kicked around inflatalbes a bit! Hint...Yes it would need something to help assist it in movement!The sand/dirt was soft and resistant...the boat was sunk in a bit.

We could have hooked up to a couple big boats and pulled it off( maybe)..and could have pulled the transom out! No way!

Hint...We removed the prop and dug a trench to the water to make room for the shaft and fins to pass...we needed something to help in move freely...think like an Egyption!

How do you think we got it to the water? Without damaging it!

79...thats a bit harsh...my wife and I were the only ones involved and the only ones who were there when the craft was beached...others who helped are good folks! I may have been a dumb --s but wife was not!!!

I agree ...know the lake...and that's a hard way to learn a lession. Too many beers was not hte reason...only bad judgement!

Getting something under the boat...we did do that!
Hint...lumber was used and a couple bottles of Dawn dish soap!

79...marking the channel with the boat...not a bad idea, however first one would want to get it off and onto a trailer to pull a great runninng 351 and tranny...then tow it back out to the bar!

Heading to Mark Twain lake today ( will buy a map)...share the rest tomorrow!

OK, I'll say that you wedged some 2x4s/4x4s under the chines, soaped them up, and pushed her out. Used a long 2x4 as a lever to lift each side to get the clearance for the fins and propshaft before putting the wood "runners" under it?

Mrese...Good ole Army corp. of eng. dropped the lake 6 inches over night...6 inchs yhe other way would have made it easier!

We used 4 eight ft. sections of 4x4 with with eight foot sections of 2x10 nailed to the bottom(so we would not sink in).
We got the one side up and washed it with water using a weed sprayer pump(to remove sand and avoid further scratching).Got a rail under it and soaped it down...did them same to the other side...took the other two rails and moved them in front of the first two...soaped them well!
Then we TRIED to push it off....well thats where the 72 Nautique came in...hooked the towing straps and watched that sucker pull!!!
The boat easily slid to the next set of rails...repeated the process until with one last mighty pull it found water!!!

So it goes something like this...

Lumber...      $50.00
doughnuts      $12.00
coffee...      $6.00
gas...        $30.00
Dish soap      $10.00
6 good buddies $free(until they need something)

What's the punch line????

What a riot! You see it all on the lake! Because no one is required to have a license to drive a boat or any educational background...any idiot can be on the lake!

I think the the ramps provide the finest intertainment on the lake.I once saw a man trying to back his boat in...he was all over the place and his wife was directing as well as telling him how stupid he was...(he had the wench strap disconnected) got pissed and hit the breaks hard and the 20' I/0 came off the trailor! A good verbal exchange took place between the two (or should I say ... a Not so good exchange)

I had a winch rope break about 50' from the launch with a roller trailer and a 17 Sea Ray. The boat ended up resting on the outdrive at a 45 degree angle off the back of the trailer. I retied the bow hook, and we had 7 or 8 guys lifting at the transom and it wouldn't budge.

This happened about 12 or 13 years ago. Not to hijack the thread, but what would you do in this situation?

No marina at the lake, but we did consider getting a tow truck to lift the stern. That is until someone mentioned the "Have those 7-8 guys sit in the bow to lever the outdrive off the pavement" (in this case gravel) method. Once it got level, a couple others pushed from the back and I was able to winch it up and put on the safety chain. Worked like a charm and there was no damage to the boat.

Cool. You never know when a creative solution will come in handy...
