THANKS FOR ALL THE GOOD TIPS.NO IM NOT A REAL CAPTAIN JUST A NICK NAME I WAS GIVEN THATS WHY IM LOOKING FOR TIPS ON BACKING UP AN INBOARD NEVER HAD ONE BEFORE ALWAYS HAD OUTBOARDS OR IO I HEAR ONCE YOU MASTER BACKING UP YOU LL NEVER GO BACK THANKS RICH

You are not going to do any fancy parking with reverse in your outboard. Assuming you have a reverse rotation engine it will walk to the left when you put it in reverse. Other than that there is no way to steer accurately in reverse. Its kind of a general direction thing.

I have been boating for over 50 years & still am learning how to handle boats.    A couple years ago we were with the Boy Scouts at Key West.     We had to back a 40 ft sailboat out of a very tight slip, in 30+ mph wind with 3 ft clearance to million $ yachts.     They used springlines, lots rpm out of the 20hp engine, & we did it!      The rich people were looking pretty worried the whole time.

Yep, learned to ski behind an old aluminum tub with fins & tail lights, the motor must have been early 50's vintage.

I always admired the woodie inboards, guess that is why I tune into a ski boat website all winter long.
