I have been struggling with ideas for new seats and seat mounts ever since I brought my boat home. The problem is that the battery in these old Mustangs sits below the driver's seat. This limits seat mount design.
Has anyone relocated their battery to the center bilge area forward of the front seats? Why the battery was ever installed under the driver's seat is beyond my understanding. It looks like there may be room. If anyone has done this please let me know what you ran up against or any known problems. Thoughts? Anyone? |

A friend of mine has a '66 CC American Skier, and I think his battery is just in front of the motor.

In my 75 tique, which I think is pretty much the same hull, the battery is between the seats, just ahead of the pylon, under a little trap door. Can't imagine sliding it forward to get it a little more out of the way wouldn't work.

My battery is in a box way up under the front. A PO moved it and I have no problems with cranking, just getting my fat ,well you know, up there for maintenance.

Mine is in front of the passenger seat. It only increased the cable length a few feet from original and is a lot better weight distribution than original. Buy welding cables or a ground lead for hooking up.

Jim, I moved mine to under the bow, just ahead of the foot board. I replaced the battery cables with 2/0 to make up for the extra length
Used a group 31 heavy truck battery, not a deep cycle. Been like that for 3 or 4 years, never a issue. Then I used a pedstal mounted drivers seat that will now swivel. |

That's what I wanted to hear. Thanks. This winter, when I remove my floor and foam, I will tackle moving the battery box. I'll post pics. It may be January or Febuary. (Those are our winter months.)

Thanks for the input everyone, I'm working on restoring a 78 and wanted to know about where I might be able to relocate my box as well due to rotting last time.
