    Posted: March-26-2004 at 1:35pm
I'm looking for an authentic Correct Craft rear-facing observer bench seat that will fit my '79 Mustang. The '79 Mustang has the same beam (76") as that era Ski Nautique so those would fit.

Please e-mail Keith@CorrectCraftFan.com.

Thanks,
-Keith

Check with Dennis at Mid West CC. He has the frames and foam cushions.

I called Dennis. He has some non-hinged frames but no bench seats. I'm still looking from some hinged frames(not sure if these came in the '79 but I need access under the bow) and/or a complete bench.

Thanks,
Keith

I'm pretty sure the hinged frames were not used until the 2001 SN went into production. You could probably add some hinges to the standard frames.

It's actually a reversable bench seat for the '79s (if I read the text right in the reference section correctly). Kind-of a pain stepping over the seat to sit though when it's facing forward. You still have access to the bow for storage, all you have to do is reach around from the drives seat and it's no problem or slide it forward. If you pretty hand an can weld Aluminum hinges would be real easy to add to the frame.

Ooohh that was bad.

If you are pretty handy and can weld better than I can spell or write.

The hinges on my 85 SN are bolted to the frames.

Does anyone have the measurements and/or patterns for the bench and back?

I can measure mine tonight. Do you have the skins or do you plan on buying them or making them your self? If you are going to buy them I would call dennis at mid-west C.C. and you can use them as a pattern. They back is a trapizoid shape with rounded corner and the bottom has a couple of cut-outs on the rear. Also the foams are tappered.

79Nautique,
Can you take measurements and send them to me? I have a teak covered battery comparment and cooler in the floor between the front seats. My guess is that one of the bench seat brackets would land right on top of the teak cover. I need to determine how commited I am to having a second observer and go over my options.

Thanks,
Keith

Keith,

I also made a teak cover for the battery well on the '78. The seat frame just misses the cover. If your cooler rises vertically from the battery cover, it will interfere with the seat overhang.

Thought about moving the battery into the bow area ala tryan and using the old battery location for a cooler, but got lazy. Maybe next winter! Let us know how it turns out.

The cooler is another hole in the floor, same size as the battery compartment, to the front (bowside) of the battery compartment - they share the same double hinged teak cover.

My '78 Martinique doesn't have a cooler, but I have a 2-passenger observer bench and the battery box is barely squeezed in between the seat mount and the bow enclosure.

Does the observer's bench seat brackets in the late '70s Nautiques look like these where the driver's side bracket is set in (i.e. to avoid where the cover to the battery box is located)?

Thanks,
Keith

Keith
my seats about like that but do not hinge. My bracket is moved closer to the center line and the base of it is shorter for that brace. On mine there are plates that mount to the floor(three long, one short) with two studs sticking up from them, then the bracket for the seat is slotted and there are big knobs that screw onto them that allow you to slide the seat back and forth or turn it around so that you are facing forward instead of rearward. I think this set-up would work nice if there was a brace on the overhang that would support the outside of the seat.

Ideally, I can buy a complete observers bench seat but I'm having a hard time finding one.

I think making one is something I would give a try if someone could send me the measurements of the seat and back.

Thanks,
Keith

Still looking for a complete seat. Does anyone have one out there from 1975-1980?

Thanks,
