Hate to replace my original Teleflex speedo in my '70 'cuda but it is cheating me on full throttle I think. Wide open last summer showed around 33mph. I felt and sounded faster than 33 to me. So if the gauge is off should I replace the whole thing(the Teleflex gauge...not the boat) or try maybe replacing the wiring/pitot tube/sender unit, first? Don't want to mess up my original dash. Spotted one identical to mine for sale on ebay for $100, original new in box but didn't get it.

I suggest you get someone with a gps and see what is really going on.
Making sure your pitot and tubing is good should be done. But "felt and sounded faster" is not a good measure. |

Robert,
I totally agree with Dean. Do you have any water leaking from the pitot system? How are the pulsation dampeners? Leaks? Plugged? What "wiring" do you have going to the speedo?
The gauge works from pressure developed from the pick up. It's a pressure gauge!!! Hey Dean, have you considered getting a banner/link for your bussiness? Keith can help you with it. |
