Late to the party here. I can personally attest that the solid lifter symphony of the 427 is quite the noise to behold.

Thanks to Joe for giving it the next home it deserved and for letting me wrench and ride. It’s every bit as beautiful in person as it looks in photos.

We splashed it with cautious optimism as all it seemed to need after a long long lay up was fuel, battery, and impellers.

At the ramp it cold started with no pumps and immediately made all the right noises. An easy ride back to the dock to warm up and an oil change later we were ready for the first real ride and I was lucky enough to make the first real ride list.

We took off for easy cruise and as it all warmed up we tipped the first carb open and it sounded great. Joe said “he was going to take it easy” but the allure of big block Ford fed by 8 barrels of AFB was too much and there we were, an untouched 59 year old dual quad 11:1 427 at WFO. The noises it makes as all 8 come online are nothing short of magical.

I’ll never know what 1964 felt like but I’m pretty sure that’s as close as I’ll get.

Well done Joe.  Now I have another unicorn for you to find.  There was a discussion over on FB the other day about 176s and in one of the old references Jody Seal mentioned one 176 with a python.  Go.

Thanks for the comments all- the boat has been running good and is enjoying being the first boat in the water this year. I got a tach on it the others day for reference and it idles smoothly at just under 600 rpm
https://youtube.com/shorts/or-GYvPX4KM?feature=share - sorry I can’t make links on my phone. Sitting at full speed for a couple seconds will get the RPM to 5010 or 5020 rpm with the 431. No info on what the rpm should be for this package- but it’s somewhere between 4200 and 5800 plus or minus 200. It runs pretty good with this prop so it’ll probably stay on until
It’s owner needs it back.

I might need 10-15 years - hopefully the current owner has it well stored

One of them has the steering wheel on the wrong side.  I'm not going to say which one though. Smile

Those make a great pair on the water together, have to sound even more amazing.
