Not really a surprise especially on a small lake, we're lucky we boat on a river with barren shoreline or we'd probably be faced with the same thing.
You can’t change the wind but you can adjust your sails

No ski rope shorter than 30'? Guess that leaves shortline on the boom out now too. Morans.

The old farts that make up the rules around here have probably never seen nor understand a boom.   Havent had any trouble with that yet. We have a lot of restrictions here, but as long as one of them is no jet skis, I live with them. The whole ballast thing is recent and came out of a fire dept friend of my son's who has a SAN and likes to (liked to) wake surf. He created some tsunamies on the lake that washed up over a guys bulkhead and then he made things worse by mouthing off to the guy. As far as the boom, doesnt disrupt the lake so should be ok. Possible hurdle, technically the lake has a speed limit, that is "a little" below barefoot speed, but as long as we are responsible and not hotrodding, I dont think any one notices. Have never seen any footers on the lake but me. I went out once last summer with a small group that was doing it directly on the boom, but I think that was the last time they did it. Pity, there is another guy I stopped and talked to one evening that has a nice 89 black themed BFN. He says they used to but don't much any more. The only other restriction that affects me is no outsider boats. That is good for keeping down the yahoo and "moran" traffic, but bad if I want to have some local CCF friends and their boats over for the day.

My friends parents on Lake Winni in NH calls them the "Kayak People."

Inconsiderate Cigarette boaters with open exhausts upset the Kayak People on lake Winni.

This resulted in the first speed limit on a lake in NH, 45MPH during the day and 25MPH at night.

Kind of stupid because it's not really the speed but the noise that ruffled feathers. No idea how they plan to enforce it because NH Marine Patrol boats are pretty far from Go-Fast.

Just got back from a week on Smith Mountain Lake. In our tight cove there were a few big wakeboard boats weighted down and wake surfing. I remarked to my friend it was as if a 35 foot cruiser was plowing back and forth all day. Luckily I had use of a lift because I couldn't tie up without getting crushed. I'm all for the fun of it but it I completely understand that a small lake with natural (no-rip-rap) shorelines and docks built without this scale of large rollers in mind would want to protect its land owners.
It seems to me the 5 foot handle on a boom is not what they are trying to limit but the language or understanding isn't sophisticated enough to distinguish it.
Glad to see they changed the length from 40 feet to 30. It would suck if they outlawed your 38 off passes, Larry!

I know that, I'm just pointing out the ignorance of the "kayak people".
