Any body have a way to get an actual measurement of the A/F mixture without putting the engine on a dyno?

Best way is to read the plugs. You want a tan color.

Someone had a design for adding an o2 sensor, but that was for EFI & I doubt if you want to install all that.

Do a search on 81 nautique. Alan made a sweet adapter to add a o2 sensor to his carbed 81. The post was from a number of years ago.

This is the standard qualitative measurement. I was hoping to get an actual quantatative measurement of A/F ratio to help dial the carb in. I'll look into 81's O2 sensor adaptor.

In my opinion, tan is still too rich.
Look at an efi engine's plugs, they are white.
White is making the best heat. Heat means more expansion of gasses and expansion means power.
Now grey is bad.
After a wot run, One needs to cut the threads off a fresh plug or scope the plug to check the width of the soot ring at the base of the insulator when you are in this range.
An out of the box proper list holley 4160 will produce white insulators with proper ignition and heat range plug.
