Does anyone know of a small shop that could galvanize a bunch of small parts I have for the launch I'm working on? I had some stuff done years ago at a galvanizing plant not far from work however they were sold out and now only do big pieces like 60' long I and W beams. The largest piece I have is the rudder. Then, small brackets and square head lag bolts.

If you don't find anything Southwest Galvinizing in San Antonio will do that, we take small parts there for our transmission lines and substations. Hopefully you find something closer, the shipping would probably be more than the galvinizing.

I held off in responding. Thinking SOMEONE is closer than Tampa, I ussed them in dipping my replica trailers. They have a minimum price tho. #813-621-8990.

Thanks. I just called them and asked if they do small "job lots". Yes, they do but, I have to send it through my employer. PO's and all that stuff the "bean counters" like to see. |

What about Electro Galvinizing? I honestly haven't looked much into what the difference is, but I know most roofing nails are done this way now.

Peter, Not a good idea! A restoration is getting the item back to as close as original as possible. Parts on a 1915 launch would not be electrogalvanized. You should have googled before commenting!

Hello, Graeme. Electrogalvanized just means zinc electroplated. Either electroplating or hot dipping can be used to apply the coating of zinc to steel (and there are other methods as well). Zinc electroplating has a definite advantage in appearance and for close fitting parts, but hot dipping will give much better corrosion resistance because the zinc coating will be about five times thicker.
