I am looking for a bracket to mount a water seperating fuel filter. I've seen them on some 70's boat where the filter was mounted to the bracket and then the bracket was mounted to the stringer. I have not been aboe to find a source anywhere and am trying to avoid having one custom made.

There were two different filters used back then. There was the short filter, which isn't truly a water separating filter, although it will collect a limited amount of water in the canister before it starts passing it through. The canister on that filter is about 4" long. The cartridge in it is a simple paper filter.
Later (I think in the '80s) there was a true water separating filter, which has two sections in the cartridge. The canister on it is 9" long, therefore the bracket has to be taller in order for it to fit on the stringer. There is also the Sierra water-separating filter that we used briefly, it uses a spin-on filter that looks just like an oil filter. I can send you photos of the brackets if you want. It wouldn't be hard to build one. I would sell any of the filters with bracket. I don't want to sell a bracket separately because I probably wouldn't be able to sell the filter separately. Art |

Art, I'm trying to locate the filter just aft of the port engine mount, which is a very busy area with little room. The filter housing has to be mounted about 4" above the stringer. I'd be interested in which everone will work. I'm using a Mercruiser housing and filter which is the same as the Sierra. I'll pm you my email in case you don't have it. Bruce

Wowie, that's going to be a tight fit. Are you talking front or rear engine mount? Either way, it's tight. I see that the outlet hose isn't on the oil cooler yet, that's going to eat up the space behind the front mount. I'm a bit unclear as to what you are doing. Are you moving the orange filter shown on the rear of the engine??
Sure is a pretty engine! 302 Hold 'em & Monkey, right?? Art PS I'm heading for the Masters; so will be tied up for 6 days. Will see emails, but probably no time to answer. Call if you want. (If there's service at Callaway. Sometimes no.) |

Hi Art, Looks like a spammer dug this old thread up. You responded to this thread 3 years ago and provided me with the bracket. Everything is tight along that side. Engine is an Interceptor 300 hp.

I was a bit suspicious of it because I saw something this morning about filters and I could tell it wasn't written by a member of our site. But it was fun to catch up with you anyway.

Thanks, Veldegg, but I think this is a result of someone spamming a previous post. I had sent a filter bracket to the owner of this boat/engine and someone picked it up and re-posted it. Look back into the thread and you'll see what I'm talking about. |
