Fuel leak

I am getting fuel bubbling up through the plug/cap central in the pic on my Holley carb. What does this piece do and what do I need to do to stop the leak?

Tim, You are correct sir, Thanks for the links. In my defense I do spend a lot of time reading in the maintenance threads, but every time I think about posting I have flash backs to being b-slapped by 79nautique for being a hobbyist.

The story today was that my son was itching to get on the water for the first time this year. We (Ok he at my insistence) had just replaced some bad raw water intake hose we found while winterizing last fall, so we decided to fire it up on the hose and check for proper function. I at the time was home from my full time job and packing tools for an evening of side work, and a little crunched for time. We discovered the leak, and he (Insert a cocky emoticon here) wanted to patch it with some RTV gasket seal. I told him that was for water systems, not gas (at least I knew that much). A quick internet search found a site far inferior to this one that concurred (one for my team, cockiness in check). Then he wanted to use JB weld, I said no, we need to find out how to do it right, let me post on ccfan (I should have searched, but it was a time pressure desperation post). He said how soon will they respond, I said so fast it will make Jimmy Johns freak. (Thanks to Tim's timely but somewhat abusive post, more cockiness in check). Of course one of the first posts we find is, "I used JB weld and it has held for five years (kid back to cocky again). End result, JB weld, and we will monitor, and replace the bowl if we need to. I hate to mess with it because it runs like a top right now.

That's my story and I am sticking to it like the Obama administration claiming Benghazi was spontaneous protest over a YouTube video (opps, that belongs back in off topic ).

+1 on the Jimmy Johns reference. My daughter works there here in GA, scary fast, hang up the phone and the doorbell rings.....

JJ's got good sandwiches, but I grew up in the tri-state area (CT/NY/NJ) and having been in GA now for 15 years, I'd trade my entire kingdom for a real corned beef sandwich, a good meatball wedge, or a slice of real pizza....
