I have a 1983 Ski Nautique 2001 with a 351 Commander engine. It ran great until a few weeks ago. I tried putting a new coil, fuel filter and fuel pump on it and it is still doing the same thing. The boat came with a prestolite ignition that I converted to an electronic ignition with a conversion kit in 2008. The boat runs great for 5 or 10 minutes. Then it spits and hesitates sometimes dying. It has been idling fine all the time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When it acts up, I would pull the coil wire out of the dizzy & hold next to a engine ground (bolt head). You want to see a big blue spark, not a yellow one. Its a good idea to wear gloves if you don't like the feel of 10,000 volts.

This will at least get you focused on fuel vs. ignition.

SNobsessed,
I will check that and get back to you. I have one question. Could the problem be in the distributor?

Thanks,

Symptoms indicate it running out of gas.

Clean out the fuel pickup, and antisyphon valve.

Thank you for the advice. I took the anti-siphon valve out. It looked clean. The fuel pickup line is welded into the tank. So I blew air into it with my air compressor. The boat ran great all weekend. I am just wondering if I will pick trash up again soon?
Thanks again for the help.
