My '85 2001 gets a little water in the bilge, enough to make the bilge pump kick on every couple hours only enough to squirt out a little water. This happens even when I am not running the boat. I leave the boat in the water all summer.
I have replaced the packing on the shaft when I replaced the shaft, it is tightened correctly and drips as it should. I have tighted the rudder packing and watched for any water entering from it. I have resealed the drain plug hole in the middle of the hull. It seems like it bilges more often when there is lots of rock and roll waves from boat traffic. Also there seems to be water in the starboard side of the stringer channel near the muffler often. I did not take off the carpeting or insulation on the exhaust hose yet to look for a leak at the clamp but was wandering if anyone has experienced a leak like this before? |

Yup, sounds like muffler or Exhaust Hose is a strong possibility. Keep in mind these actually sit below the water line.
Check out this tread, very similar symptoms and it turned out to be a cracked muffler: http://www.correctcraftfan.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=26559&PN=1&title=sn-2001-1987-taking-on-water Let us know what you find. |
