Found edelbrock performer 600 carb on 351w

   While looking over the engine fixing the broken impeller and doing oil change I recently purchased, which from a previous post I posted about the overheating issue which Rex helped me with. We found that the carb is a edelbrock performer 600  street model. He recommended not to run the engine do to possibly cause a explosion or fire in the dog house. We wanted to know if this type of carb is ok? Or does anyone know anything about these?

	it looks like the 1409 was the marine edition. otherwise they look very similar. Hopefully someone who knows more than us will chime in !!

	The 1406 is the automotive carb with electric chocke. Not for marine use. The 1409 would be the correct carb to use in a boat...

	That will work. Now you can get rid of that "rigging" with the fuel inlet hose. The hard pipe should thread right into the inlet on the Holley. While your at it change the return line so it is "marine fuel rated". Take the bolt out of the top of your flame arrester as it needed replacing. That should square you away on the fuel side.

	The main differences between the auto carb and the marine carb (besides jetting being different and wrong, but you could change that) is how auto carbs and marine carbs deal with superfluous fuel. A marine carb takes special care that all leaked or excess gas gets dumped inside the manifold. Automotive carbs are not as concerned with the buildup of gas of fumes in the bilge (as the car has no bilge) and so a small amount of outside leakage, and or float bowl overflow is permitted. You do want to find yourself a proper marine carb, typically on a 351w for a correctcraft that would be the holley, national carb is in fact a great source for a rebuilt one. There is nothing wrong with the edelbrocks, but they tend to need a wedge to run right in a straight inboard application. If you are going to run the automotive one for any amount of time be very vigilant about ventilation and checking for leaks.
