My Dad was recently selected to go on an Honor Flight, we found out it is 16, Sept out of the Dubuque Honor Flight chapter. He is a veteran of the Korean War, and they have recently started incorporating those vets into the program as well. I always knew he served in Korea but he rarely talks about it.

Many of you met my Dad (Roger Kutsch) at a couple of the Green Lake reunions. If you haven't met him, he has a 63 Ski Nautique in original condition, it is and alway has been his pride and joy. He enjoyed meeting everyone at Green Lake, always asks about different boats and I know he looks forward to returning to one of the reunions soon. One of my favorite CorrectCraftFan memories is just watching him from across the parking lot talking to anyone who would listen and telling stories about his old boat, water skiing and running on the Mississippi River. You all made him feel like a kid in the candy store.

Anyway knowing in addition to our love of Correct Crafts, I have noted that we all great patriots who have shown a great appreciation for those that have served. Sure we argue about political issues, but at the end of the day everyone agrees that those that serve deserve our thanks. As part of the Honor Flight on the return trip home they have a mail call. I am pretty sure my Dad would be surprised to get mail from fellow Correct Craft owners. I felt kind of weird posting this, but then I thought knowing how awesome the folks are on this site, I was being silly.

I am really proud of my Dad for his service and am so excited for him to go see his memorial. So if you would like to drop him a short note, you can send it to the following by 5, Sept.

Great Idea Skutch! Knowing someone who has served really makes our freedom that much more precious.

I'm writing it as we "speak." It goes in tomorrow's mail. Note the photo on one of the stamps if/when you see the envelope.

Steve, I grew up in Dubuque. It's a great river town. Your dads service is very well appreciated. I spent 11 years in the Army National Guard in Dubuque. I will tell you being in the service is not easy. The guys your with and mail call is the only thing that keeps you going sometimes. I'll send out a letter Tomorrow. Tony.

Thanks Dave!

Thanks Tony, you grew up in Dubuque! Obviously I did too, there was a Jim Lange and a Tim Lange in my class at Wahlert, any relation (I know there are probably more Lange's in Dubuque then Smith's...)? Man I was always on the river with the family; sandbars and water skiing those were my summers. Great stripes! And thank you for your service!

My brothers are quite a bit older than me. I'm the baby of 9. Had a few sisters and brothers go to Wahlert though. I have a brother Tim but he's like 55 or older. My wife Laura (Lochner) went to Wahlert. Grad in 89. My Sis has a place right across from 9 mile. we were just there the other weekend goofin around. River can be awesome early in the morning or late at night. No problem with the letter. Glad to do it. Tony.

I hope Roger had a good day. From reading the honor flight web site it looks like a long but amazing day.

Hey guys, Dad's flight is actually today. If all went well they should have been wheels up at 8:07AM. He is due back in Dubuque at 10:10 this evening. My sister and two of my daughters are going to hop in the plane and fly back to DBQ this evening after all the athletic practices/games to meet him. I will post pictures tomorrow. Thanks again for all your support!

Ok guys this took a little longer then I had counted on. Anyway here is a kind of a wrap on the Honor Flight homecoming. Dad, had a great time, as you will see he was smiling from ear to ear when he got home. He was very surprised to get letters from a bunch of Correct Craft guys. Thanks for helping make his experience so nice. Enjoy!

Steve

That was a moving video. We have so many ordinary Americans that we have asked to extra-ordinary things. It is great to see them get some of the recognition they deserve. Thanks for letting us be a small part of it.
