Looking for lakes to ski/wake board on near Yorktown Heights NY 10598.
I know of Lake Mohopac, but the lake appears to be pretty small and might get crowded on summer weekends. Any insight on this lake? I've been told CandleWood lake in CT is nice, but I know nothing about it. Any other lakes that I'm missing? Thanks, Robert |

We have a place on the north end of Candlewood in Sherman, it is a huge lake with lots of shoreline, clean, nice, all that stuff, just gets a little crazy on the weekends though.
What about the River down your way, never been on it myself, sure looks like a lot of water though. |

Hudson River is only 6 miles away, but I would be very afraid of floating debris. I've seen some serious logs that would put a world of hurt if you every hit one with your body let alone the boat.
I'll take some time off during the week to explore Candlewood. Any other local ideas? |

Candlewood is a nice lake but it is big and sometimes pretty choppy. Best times are early morning or evening. Lake Zoar is about 15 miles further east, has a good ramp and plenty of parking. It is a river kind of lake so there is almost always some part that is nice and smooth. If you plan on coming out this way and want some company send me a pm.

+1 on Candlewood. Also Zoar just a bit further up.
I used to commute to work over the Bear Mountain Bridge & always wanted to do a Hudson River run...such a georgeous stretch of water passing under the bridge & past West Point. Or put in down by the Tappan Zee, run past Sing Sing & the Palisades, and then do your own little Circle Line around the city. Maybe not wise for skiing, but would sure be a great cruise.... |

also, greenwood lake can't be more than an hour from you, i think there's a few CCFans over there also. Busy on weekends as I've heard, but that's (naturally) unavoidable anywhere in the tri-state area.
