                      Affordable Boat Act

The U.S. government has just passed a new law called: "The affordable boat act" declaring that every citizen MUST purchase a new boat, by April 2014. These "affordable" boats will cost an average of $54,000-$155,000 each. This does not include taxes, trailers, towing fees, licensing and registration fees, fuel, docking and storage fees, maintenance or repair costs.

This law has been passed, because until now, typically only wealthy and financially responsible people have been able to purchase boats. This new laws ensures that every American can now have a "affordable" boat of their own, because everyone is "entitled" to a new boat. If you purchase your boat before the end of the year, you will receive 4 "free" life jackets; not including monthly usage fees.

In order to make sure everyone purchases an affordable boat, the costs of owning a boat will increase on average of 250-400% per year. This way, wealthy people will pay more for something that other people don't want or can't afford to maintain. But to be fair, people who cant afford to maintain their boat will be regularly fined and children (under the age of 26) can use their parents boats to party on until they turn 27; then must purchase their own boat.

If you already have a boat, you can keep yours (just kidding; no you can't). If you don't want or don't need a boat, you are required to buy one anyhow. If you refuse to buy one or cant afford one, you will be regularly fined $800 until you purchase one or face imprisonment.

Failure to use the boat will also result in fines. People living in the desert; ghettos; inner cities or areas with no access to lakes are not exempt. Age, motion sickness, experience, knowledge nor lack of desire are acceptable excuses for not using your boat.

A government review board (that doesn't know the difference between the port, starboard or stern of a boat) will decide everything, including; when, where, how often and for what purposes you can use your boat along with how many people can ride your boat and determine if one is too old or not healthy enough to be able to use their boat. They will also decide if your boat has out lived its usefulness or if you must purchase specific accessories,(like a $500 compass) or a newer and more expensive boat.

Those that can afford yachts will be required to do so...its only fair. The government will also decide the name for each boat. Failure to comply with these rules will result in fines and possible imprisonment.

Government officials are exempt from this new law. If they want a boat, they and their families can obtain boats free, at the expense of tax payers. Unions, bankers and mega companies with large political affiliations ($$$) are also exempt.

If the government can force you to buy health care, they can force you to buy a boat....or ANYTHING else..

                     Yea...it's that stupid...

Its still funny the second time though!

I have seen a noticeable effect Bruce. The VA has been selective over the years as to who gets medical attention. Some vets have been refused because they didn't serve during a conflict, a practice i found to be detestable. Now however there has been an active attempt to sigh any vet up. A recent mailing requested we pass the information out. It also stated that any person enrolled in the program is covered under the ACA. Look into it.

I'm just curious if the VA will remain separate which I would think would be preferable. I've always worked for small employers or been self employed and struggled with insurance for years. When my wife went back to work, she took a job for the benefits. We haven't heard how she will be affected, but supposedly union plans may face big changes come next year.

I see no reason why the VA will be anything but a separate entity. No doubt there will be some pain bringing the social medicine to this country. If those going to the DR to get free aspirin and other benefits are weeded out there will be a lot of room for those who really need the care. Perhaps mandatory subscription to government service and the accompanying benefits would help. Any takers?

I went to the Nautique web site to order my free boat but apparently the response was so great that portion of the site was down. Rats.

No thanks on the free boat! I have a '76 Southwind, and it was very low cost, and meets my needs perfectly. I sure hope it meets the standards of the boat council dictator. I am assuming I will be able to keep it. Plus, had I just waited for this very generous offer, I guess I could have saved $2500 on the cost of the boat. I sure hope I get to keep my mechanic too! What could go wrong!!!

Oh, Oh, your boat doesn't have perfect pass, efi or CATs, you can kiss it good bye.

yes Dave, even though they said you could keep your boat if you like your boat, period, and you think your boat is adequate your southwind is actually an inferior boat, you could of course add perfect pass and a tower to bring it up to standards, but you would have had to do that in 2010when the law was written so you will be forced to go on the boat exchange website.

I have been doing a little studying up on this new boating law since I ready about it earlier today. To bring my "junk" boat up to standard, I am going to have to install a women's only bathroom on it, even though my wife doesn't like boating, and never goes out on it.

Well, she does, but for the sake of this narrative, we will pretend she doesn't

This new law seems crazy!! Shouldn't people just be allowed to be free and do what they want without all these mandates. I sure hope this new law gets repealed soon!

REPEAL??? That would be moving backwards. It does not matter how much better the view back is than the view forward, we can only look forward. This plan was not supposed to work anyway, it was just to justify the need for full government run universal boating. Prepare the southwind for the collectives death panels my friend. Resistance is futile!

I do believe that. You couldn't try to "mess" up the boating market this bad. It has to be on purpose.

"Welp, we tried, but, the private boat insurance market just doesn't work. We will just have to go to full boating dictator council control." "Please pay 80% of your paycheck to "the council" and we will take it from here.
