Certainly a water flow restriction, but could this cause the boat to run hot?

Bend back into shape or replace?

There is a pretty darn good chance that will suck some air and make you run hot- you can try and get it round and a hose on it - I could also bring you a used one to white lake in a couple days

The restriction and it sucking air sure could make it run hot.
I'd try to reshape it, what the heck. In 10 minutes you'll know if it needs to be replaced.

Oh heck yeah that'll draw some air and cause some cooling issues. The cooler is brass so you should be able to bend it back into shape pretty easily. If it tears, replace.

That will definitely make it run hot. Same thing happened to mine several years ago. I think I pounded in progressively bigger sockets (that I didn't give a crap about) to get it back into shape and it's worked perfectly for at least 7 or 8 years now. I still have no idea how it got like that.
When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

Someone jamming in and prying a screw driver to get the hose off would be my guess.

If the hose is clamped high enough it might not be a problem but I wouldn't go puting it back on like that. It also could help perfectly explain your high running temps.
