   So after getting to see the boat in person it looked great! but it was obvious that a lot of the black pigment in the gelcoat had succumbed to UV. So I'm trying to figure out how to remedy this situation. The boat is a silver nautique and I'm going to keep it with the OG graphics. So I can only think of two things. Leave it alone (looks terrible on the trailer and on plane), or paint from the water/grey line down gloss black and carry it onto the bottom of the boat as well. Last choice is to wrap the bottom half on the sides????

So bummed, I know the only real right way is re gel coat. I don't have the funds for that right now and re stringing will come first. What can I do for now? What would you guys do?

Have you tried wet sanding & buffing?

Lot's of oxidation. Wipe you hand over it, does it feel chalky? The gel is pretty thick. In a test spot wet sand with 600 grit. Then ajust the grit as fine as will do the job. Be carefull on the clear over the metal flake. Iv'e got faith that it will come back.

Pigment is there just have to find it.When I looked at my boat at first glance thought it was gray it is red.Took some sanding and buffing but is red again.Search the site for sanding,buffing it'll come back.

+ 1 - Wet sand and buff. Don't even think about paint or worse yet a wrap. You will get VERY little help here with those methods.

It has been wet sanded and buffed professionally. Zero chalkiness or oxidation left. That's as good as it's getting after the wet sanding etc. The boat sat in the water for years. If I don't get help with the wrap or paint here then I'll find help elsewhere. Not everyone can afford to restore it back to elitist shape! This has been looked at by 3 professionals. It would have to be re gelled. I can't afford to do that at the moment with the other things I'm doing too. You could keep sanding all the way to the fiberglass if you wanted and it's not gonna get any blacker. SO anybody who has any experience with paint or possibly knows someone that does gel work in the nc area, I could really use your help. If all your reply will be is "that won't fly here" "only way is this way" then please don't respond, it's just wasting bandwidth.

You didn't mention it had already been done and that was results.There are plenty of marine finishes that you can apply to bottom.Maybe find shop that can hang boat and spray with black Imron or whatever is it's equal these days .If you don't tell anybody I won't.

Sorry, I had posted in another thread about getting it done. Whoops. I don't want to use bottom paint, it would have to be gloss, and the boat doesn't stay in the water so maybe alexseal paint from that line down and on the bottom. At least until I can afford to have it re gelled.

IMO, since thats the water line, I think it'll disappear once in the water. I mean looks not the best on the trailer but in the water, you can't tell right? I think I'd wait and save until possibility to regel.

That's correct, it's all waterline and below. I think that's probably what I will do. Hopefully with the new 2001 graphics and new interior I won't be so drawn to the grey lol.
