I have a 1993 SN w/ open bow. Got a big sound system upgrade recently - with advice from some of you (thanks again btw). My new head unit is in the same location at the old..in the glove box. Its Bluetooth and I want to use my phone for controls. Only problem is I need a good way to mount it near drivers seat. I looked at suction cup windshield mounts to mount to that side glass piece but they make me nervous that it may come loose and fall in the water. Any inventive way to mount a cell phone holder you guys have come up with? If suction cup is the way to go...any brands or models you've found work good? Thanks in advance for any advice or photos on this.

I had a Rockfish mount that suctioned to the windshield. I put it to my left just in case but it held great. It wound up breaking getting moved into a car. I miss it. I used the GPS in place of my non working airguides

For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Get a lifeproof case and use the lifeproof suction cup. I had it on the dash of my Nissan Frontier in an area that was slightly too small for the 3" section cup and it still held very strong. On the window or a flat part of 3x3" fiberglass it will be perfect. I use one in the boat on the dash.
Also, you can get the "lifejacket" for the lifeproof or just tie a floaty to it if you are worried. Lifeproof also has a mount that goes around a handle bar... maybe you could use it on the mirror mount or window support. |

We've been headless for 4 or 5 years now and just put the iPod in a silicon sleeve and it sits beside the dash in front of the throttle. It sticks to the gelcoat well and gets splash protection from the windshield.

Now there's a guy confident his boat will never break down! Haven't had to break out the paddles for 4 years, but no need for a cellphone on my lake, there's always a cheerful bassboater willing to lend a helping hand... [;) Pretty sure there are no mounts for my antique flip-phone but as I recall, Morfoot has a nice modern phone/ipod type mount on his dash, maybe he'll pipe in. |

Well I wouldn't exactly call it nice but it is functional thanks Jeff.... Went to the Dollar store and found a cheap Ipod video case that I just screwed onto the dash plate using one of the screws holding the dash plate on. I located it just under the radio and have a very short cord attaching aux input on the front to the Ipod itself. I'll try and post a picture or two when I get home. I know Jimsport93 uses his Ipad as his music source on his 93 and keeps it beside the drivers seat and uses a long cord. Thank goodness the sound system is up to date unlike the music coming out of it. He and Robin have been known to start "Shagging" to it when we raft up out in some cove somewhere! |

Okay so here is what I did with mine. Looking at it today the loop on the back side of the holder snaps together ( I guess so you wouldn't have to undo you belt to remove the ipod?) so I un snapped it, screwed the "loop" to the dash plate then resnapped it. Here's the pic as promised...

I will admit it. I like old classic music as much as I like classic boats. Great combination. Looking forward to our next raft up on Lanier! |
