I'm restoring a 1986 Fish Nautique. Looking to buy for a replacement PCM 40A with 1.23:1 reduction drive. Either a serviceable unit or a core for rebuild would be of interest. Either PM me or text 828-577-2553. Located in Brevard, NC and can arrange shipping from this end. Thanks!

Post some pics of that Fish Nautique and your progress! Is this the one that was for sale in Virginia a few weeks ago?

Will do on the pictures. This boat was a Craigslist find in south Florida at a moving sale. Needs re-powering (engine and drive), new fuel tank, and paint. Stringers are rock solid. Teak is complete and intact. Thanks for the interest.

Steve,
I know repowers are common in larger boats but fill us in on the original power. Gone? Rebuildable?

Then the cast iron block is very well seasoned!

Afraid I can't offer much information on the original engine. The Owners Manual and documentation that transferred with the Fish indicated that it was equipped by Correct Craft with a PCM 351 and Borg Warner Velvet Drive. The boat was re-powered in the mid 1990's with a new PCM Pro Boss GT-40 MPI/EFI + PCM40A drive. This engine is raw water cooled and the salt water was not very kind to it. When we took the engine apart to evaluate the serviceability we found that we were only able to salvage the GT-40 heads, lifters, push rods, and camshaft. The current plans are to purchase a reman 351W marine short block, have the GT-40 heads reconditioned, and reassemble using a carburetor and electronic ignition.

Brevard NC? Where do you boat? I was there for a summer in 1998, I know the French Broad is around there, but I wasn't aware of any lakes.

+1 on the pics

When completed the boat will be kept in kept in NW Florida between Panama City and Destin (Hyw 30-A). There are a couple of large lakes close-by Brevard. Hartwell and Keowee. We are on the headwaters of the French Broad - with the Fish requiring two feet of draft to float - you're right that is not an option. Recently sold a Shamrock 246 and we have boated in Hartwell with it - these salt water boats with Tee Tops and outriggers look out of place on the mountain lakes.

Thanks for the note. Yes we are close by in location. Going back to carb and getting away from the EFI. This boat is going back into salt water. In my opinion there are too many electronic sensors on the Pro-Boss GT-40 for continued reliability as the existing components age. I figure the electronics are at least 10 years old already. Would be happy to discuss any trades you might consider whenever you are ready. Went ahead and purchased a brand new PCM 80A 1.23:1 drive to replace the old PCM 40A that needs rebuilding. Its available if you need some parts for yours. Also available to help you should you ever need a second set of hands on your project. Am a fair mechanic / engine builder and restore antique rods (mostly old Corvettes) when not working or fishing.

Thanks for the offer... I teach High school so I will be out soon so you you need an extra set let me know. I have a 2001 but found a 97' sport with a bad engine which I hope to repower with another GT40 set up. So I will have some extra parts around. I also haave a GM excalibur but it got damaged in shipping so I hopeing for the best on the ford. If I am ever in the area I will send a text to see how your project is coming. you do the same .

PCM has a new transmission out that is MUCH tougher than the 40I and is a direct replacement. It is known as the "80 Series." Check with SkiDim.com

I have a IRM40-1s for sale out of a 2008 SV211. I am willing to sell it seperate from the V-Drive if any interest. Accepting any reasonable offer. 160 hours on the tranny and V-drive.
