Hello all,
I know this subject has been beat to death and believe me, I have read all the threads I could find about it. However, I want to make sure I didn't miss anything or, worse yet, do something wrong, so I made a video and put it on you tube so you experts could give me pointers/advice. The link is here: http://youtu.be/Yir72hHdr94 Disclaimer: I don't consider myself much of a mechanic (or a videographer either) so please be patient. I just bought the boat a few months ago and want to make sure I take care of it properly. I live near Pensacola Florida in the panhandle, and there aren't any inboard dealers anywhere close that I can find, plus I'd like to know how to do it myself. The weather here doesn't get too terribly cold (only a few nights below freezing if any), but I'm military, so the next duty location could be quite different. Thanks in advance for all the help. Nate, interesting how the heater is plumbed one side directly to the block, seems like that would trump the TStats function??
Couple things I do slightly different: Simply run the shower pump to drain the port side block and the shower CWS, be sure both H&C valves are open. Remove impellor for inspection and add'l drain. After complete drain I use the suck up method to add pink a/f via the intake line just past the strainer, takes about 5 gallons, run shower while sucking up until pink flows out, by the 5th gallon you should see pink coming out the exhaust. If no shower/heater less pink would be required. Then fog each cylinder via the spark plug hole. Nate's Video: |

Thanks for the reply. I'm not smart enough to know if the heater is affecting the thermostat function...can anyone else weigh in? I wish I would have thought of running the shower to drain the block. The impeller is my next step. But if I remove it, would I still be able to suck up the AF? That is why I was leaning toward just pouring it in somewhere...I just don't know where to add it. If someone could post a picture of which hose to pour it into, that would be awesome. Also, will pouring method fill up the lines in the heater and shower? Thanks again for the help. Nate |

Don't worry, Quinner isn't either. That's an acceptable place to plumb the feed, the thermostat won't care. You might get hotter water out of the intake though. |

Hah, knew you would chime in eventually Timmy, perhaps you could enlighten us dummy's, lol. Wouldn't that heater hose location allow water to flow from the block when cold which is what the T-Stat prevents??
As Tim mentioned Nate, most factory installed heaters are plumbed a bit different. Here is some pics of my SBC with factory installed heater.   |

Son of a ......., lol, thanks Timmy, was envisioning that line allowing the water to exit instead of being within the block loop. Think my brain froze, been really cold here, actually had traces of snow on the ground this AM.
