I forgot!

I know there are many who have forgotten to put their garboard drain plug in. I have and if you haven't, you just haven't forgotten yet!

I've got a new one today. Last night I plugged the block heater in on the diesel since they were predicting temps around zero. Yup, today I drove off without unplugging! Thankfully the cord ripped out of the outlet.

LOL! Another reason I'll never own a diesel again Pete although I do have a heater in my old Jeep. Back in the day my car had to sit outside,the newer one was inside our 1 car garage. I had taken a cord and plugged it into the inside garage light that was switched from the house,ran it behind the shelfs and cabinets and out the door. In the morning when the Mrs got up she would turn it on and by the time I left it was good and warm. It was my job to take our son to daycare since I worked the closest to home. We jump in,and as I'm backing up see all the stuff falling off the shelfs and the cabinet falling over! Took me a bit to realize what was going on,lucky for me she was gone or it would have damaged her car for sure.The extension cord never did unplug but it did shred being pulled thru the door. I won't tell you where I aquired the cord though but you can guess---

Until the current owners came along in 99,nothing was cheap Pete, money was no object on anything

Last Friday i took the day off for my bday which means nonstop phone calls. I took the dog for a ride in her boat, the Carolina Skiff. When leaving house I stuck the plug in. I get to ramp, splash the trailer, notice some water in the boat and thought sure is a lot if water left over from washing the boat. Turn the pump on. I back the boat off and think boy that water doesn't seem to be going anywhere yet the bilge is shooting a stream. Few moments go by, appears I can see water swirling at the transom and water seems to be getting deeper. I reach around the transom, I can feel the plug. Well maybe I should motor back to trailer. On the trailer,,water is def coming in. I can't figure where, check the thru hulls, they're good. I can still feel the plug in transom. I figure I have problems so better pull the boat out. Pull the boat out, walk to the transom.... I plugged the live well drain, not the damn transom hole next to it. When I put the plug in at the house I was on the phone, not paying attention. Then at ramp taking on water I was stumped bc I could feel the plug in.

As a young boy growing in Georgia I would occasionally see a plug sticking out of the grill of a car.... Always wondered what the heck it was for.... Glad I finally found out last week what its purpose in life is!

Stay warm fella's Puxatawny Phil may have seen his shadow but General Beauregard here in GA did not! Looks like an early spring for us...In the 60's today. Y'all can keep the cold!

The block heater will not prevent fuel gelling. I did get stuck once when we had a cold snap in fall. The diesel fuel hadn't been switched over to a winter blend yet. I got to within 100' of Napa and bought a couple quarts of 911 (cure for gelled fuel). I was back on the road within about 15 minuets. I do use a anti gel additive in winter on a regular basis.

I have never had any of our past diesel rigs Gel up. I don't know if maybe we just get lucky and get the winter stuff early.

We generally would block heat the things before we started them in the winter so the oil would travel fluidly vs being a gooey pile of oil.

The old 5.9 Cummins take a while for oil pressure to show on the gauge as is and it gets pretty scary if the thing is dead cold in like 10 degree weather.

Now, the gas rigs just start up with 20 weight synthetic haha. Still takes a decent amount of time to get to operating temp though.
