Jb thank you, so you got to run yours with the stock wheel i am guessing. do you remember the numbers you were hitting with that opposed to now?
The only numbers i have for my boat are with an oj 13x9 with many a hours on her. how did you come up with that wheel? was it suggested from a shop or online somewhere? its the first i have heard of anyone running that wheel and I have google searched wheels for the fish since the day i bough it with no real solid info to back anything i have found. |

John,
Welcome back to CCfan. Get the boat out and get some pictures posted. What did you do about the skegged strut? Here's a direct link to the tread on the strut. |

john thats ok, I have thrown around the idea of building a bolt on keel for this boat in order to protect some of the running gear. but it always gets me to wondering just how much extra drag that creates under these boats at speeds. if i could find stainless aero tubing i would probably try and use that.
I also wonder how much protection your actually getting from the setup, could it hold up if the boat were beached or tided in the mud on a dock? or would the fasteners just pull out? |

Tony, I'm curious as to what you consider to be "aero tubing"? |

this is aero tubing, I have a pile of it left over from a wing project i built a few years ago but its 4130 which for obvious reasons wouldn't work, but if a thicker walled 316ss was available i would probably opt for that because of its design. it would create less turbulence in the water than standard round tubing. and yes i know we aren't traveling at high rates of speed in these boats but every little bit helps right? |

looks like this but is not connected to the prop strut , it has a bronze V strut , 4 '' x 1/2 thick , I sharpened the leading edge to cut any grass that gets hung up , the SS solid round part is round all the way , turns up behind the rudder http://www.tidalfish.com/forums/showthread.php/72644-Inboards-w-Prop-Protection

Here is the link
Im not so sure about hanging something off the bottom like that,I guess if you hit something that would give it would sure help. But if you were to hit something like the bottom or something where it would take the weight of the boat you could rip that right off leaving some big holes where it bolted on to worry about. I managed to tear up a prop this winter even with a keel so it's not the total answer either. Possibly why outboards are more popular? |

I have hit the bottom hard , no damage , maybe it was made to protect the manatee's , found this

With the stock 14x11 federal super cup never saw anything above 30 knot. Cruise was 23knot at about 3200. The new 524 added about 5 knots to cruise and top speed with no loss in hole shot. Even though prop dimensions are less the prop has more surface area compared to original. I talked to acme and that's the prop they recommended. I recommend calling acme before you make decision.

jeesh I'm wondering how mine would run with this wheel. it has a 13x9 now, and raising the pitch by that much i'm afraid will load my engine a little too much. I'm going to have to wait till i get her back in the water and see what i get for actual numbers with my current setup before i drop the dough for a new wheel. i hate to do it twice.
I cant seem to find where i emailed my exact numbers to them last year but through correspondence with delta they recommended the Acme-2082. which is a 13x9. guess i'll get some numbers and see what fits the bill |

new trailer that looks like it would fit a fish nautique , prop guard makes it hard to find a trailer that will fit , still have the factory #5 and it's rusty http://longisland.craigslist.org/boa/5001575517.html

new prop is on , speed is the same 2600 rpm = 23 MPH , much smoother , better takeoff , vibration in turns , had it with the old prop also , rudder has 1 inch side to side play at bottom , how much play should it have ?

John, About .020" is about the max clearance between the port and shaft. Not knowing the length of the rudder below the port and the length of the shaft engaged in the port, I can't say. Measure both and use the .020 to "trig" out the play. |
