I haven't tuned mine yet (this is my first 4 barrel carb) but this is what I've read so far: Your idle mixture, your main and secondary jetting may need adjustment. I bought a vacuum gauge to set mine up. Make sure beforehand that your accelerator pump arm is set properly: 0.015 clearance at WOT (wide open throttle) with engine off. If you didn't change this and it was set properly initially it should be ok. (Mine wasn't) Idle: Start with about 2 turns out; then lean it out until the vacuum starts to drop then back off (richen) about a 1/4 turn; slightly more if it stumbles at low speeds. A bit busy, so main and secondary jetting adjustment will have to be after work...4:30PM Central (GMT -5) Shoot me an email address. I have a 26 page pdf that explains things more extensively than need-be but it should help. |

I agree with the idle adjustment and acc pump adjustment.
There's no way to adjust the jets though, what you have is what you have. You can change them out for different sizzles, but if they worked before, they should work now, as long as they're clean. Skidim provides a simplified procedure to start with: http://www.skidim.com/Faq_Maint.asp#HOLLY%20CARB%20ADJUSTMENT%20INSTRUCTIONS Also check out videos 1&10 here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL353239D6A7D7BFF0 |

Yep, those are good videos, much better than the pdf I have.
The jet adjustment was overkill and gobbledygook anyway. More for initial design on a hotrod rather than a rebuild. I'm hoping to get my engine installed and tune mine this weekend. Let us know how yours goes. |

Cleaning out the metering block, specifically the idle fuel orifices, is typically the most critical step, since they are hidden from inspection and prone to clogging with the smallest of debri

Yes, and aplications of carb cleaning solvents, either spray-can or dip.
An Ultrasonic cleaner can be used for short time. Long duations can cause fuel leaks at the press-in plugs Bet done with the metering block removed, so solvent and air can be applied from all directions |

Hello guys,
Is there suppose to be a gasket between those two part ? I receive only one main gasket which i guess goes between the motor and the carb base. Regards Serge |

Yes. And the one supplied by the carb kit is prone to vacuum leaks. If you must use it, use it between the manifold and spacer. Those surfaces typically stay true.
A fel-Pro 1901 or equivalent is best under the carb, or both. And don't overtighten, or else risk warping the throttle plate. |

Dear all,
Finnaly I drive my boat at the harbor today after rebuilding my carb. But of course nothing goes right from first step. While stqarting the engine, I could see some fuel leak comming out from the small circle part on picture below.this is the part which control full level in primary side of the carb. Did I forget gasket from that part ? If yes which one ? Thanks for help Regards |

Serge,
That round part is a Welch plug used to block off unused holes from machining. They can be replaced. New ones are driven in along with a sealant.

Hello,
If it is a Welch plug used to block off unused holes from machining, it means that I did not forgot a gasket . How can I repair this leak from the wesh plug as I do not have spare. Can I place some strong glue or something similar? If yes how ? Regards Serge |

If I need to repair it with some glue, how can I apply it ?
Do I need to remove the fuel bowl and put the glue from inside or should I place the glue from outside. Never done this, will appreciate instruction Regards |

Serge,
There isn't much that will stand up to gas especially today's ethanol. If you had a new plug, I would suggest Aviation compound by Permatex. Before trying to apply something from the inside, You could try some epoxy on the outside. Clean and abrade the surface and give it a try. It may or may not work. |

Hello guys, for my gqz leakage describe I have used special cold soldering glue whihch is specific for aluminimum and heat. No leak anymore.
Next step is to go on water and see if carb is working ok. Except idle screw to adjust, I guess nothing else special need to be done at high speed ? Regards |

No high speed adjustments are needed. Yup, just adjust the idle screw.

Dear all,
I finally to get everything mounted in my renuomd carb and able to do spme test but I have a wierd issue and I am wondering how to adjust. I finnaly buy a new impeller kit for my water pump. But then even after ths Ivhave a strange issue. When I star the motor i can see the water rising up in the tube but then after a while the motor temerature rise up. It seem that at idle speed the amount of water which travel is not enough. If i put some gaz in neutral more water are coming because motor run faster rpm and then temperature drop down to 160F.. Then back to idle without gaz and temperature eaise up again until 180 to 200 F. What could it be ? Bad idle speed? How to adjust good cooling ampunt at idle speed, could it be an adjustment issue between carb idle scree and motor idle speed Thanks for help |
