Tonight, I was finally able to dry mount my re-worked strut and get it right in the center of the log . One washer in each of the back holes, and there was enough bolt clearance play to accommodate the twist misalignment .

I bought some 5200 and my mcmaster order for new stainless fasteners is coming tomorrow.

I've read to liberally apply the sealant on the base of the strut, bolt up and verify alignment before waiting to cure.

Is there anything I can add that would release the strut easier in case it gets damaged again?

Once the strut is seated permanently, I'm going to install the coupler (using the oven), then perform the engine mount alignment. Installing the prop last

Any issues with that order of assembly?

.You could use the 4200 it is easier to remove than the 5200. Make sure you have washers in and tighten it all down first without the sealer on to insure you dont have too much washer . It will move with a good tightend bolt. I placed washers under mine and thought i needed them until i tightened up everything and realized i had too much angle added and removed them and tightened everything up good with my sealer and i had a perfect fit.
So check, check and recheck before you apply sealer dont get in a hurry

The 5200 is removable by hot wiring. The only problem comes up if you have a recessed base strut.

I do have the recessed base, should I use the 4200 instead?

Some people may take issue with what I am about to suggest. That's fine.

I keep my prop repair shop in good cash flow as the waters around here are quite shallow tidal. Its not if you hit bottom but when. It has been my experience that these particular struts are relatively soft in there nature. I would bet a dollar and a tuna samich that if you hit hard enough to fold over a blade then you have most likely also bent your strut.
That being the case 5200 would be the last thing I reached for when bedding the strut.
Sea valve? 5200
Transducer? 5200
Strut? General marine sealant. Poly-sumthing.
It has four 3/8 bolts. It aint coming off or even loose. I need a sealant, not an adhesive.
I hate 5200 and use it sparingly.

Oh I also use thickened epoxy instead of washers to trim.

4200 is fine. If the strut is shimmed with washers, the polyurethanes will also fill the small gap between the base and the hull. The durometer is high enough to support the base. I have mentioned it way back that only one washer should be used. Beyond that then yes, as mentioned a epoxy base must be added.

Well I ordered the 4200 online. I waited this long to do the job correctly I'll wait for that to arrive., But just wondering if there's any type of sealant sold at hardware stores (Home depot, Ace) that would work in it's place?

Home Depot has 5200 and at one time I thought they had 4200 but I have not seen it lately when I have been in there.

ACe and Home depot as well as lowes around here have 4200 and 5200 fast dry and regulr in stock by the grease tube or small hand application type.

maybe its different on these boats but when i've seated struts on larger boats I have used washers to get the spacing and i pump west system in there so there is a solid surface for it to sit on.
