I noticed a very small amount of rot in my stringers inside the weep holes. My plan is to scrape out the rot and seal the holes? How should I seal them??
Thanks, Jeff |

Jeff,
The water moisture is already in the wood. You will not be able to seal up the wet wood plus the water has penetrated deep into the stringers. It will never dry out. Sealing up wet wood is not a good idea since it just creates a great environment for the rot spores. When fiberglass hulls first came around and including CC, the wood stringers were simply "tabbed" to the hull. The tabs were just strips of glass laid over the tops and to the hull. many of these are still around since it allowed the wood to dry. You ether leave the wood open to dry or you TOTALLY encapsulate/seal with a CPES method. |
