    Posted: July-10-2015 at 1:02pm
I am looking for a manual for a PCM Mark IV 454 for my 1988 BFN. It overheated on the lake and now (or was I pulled all of my plugs and turned motor over until no more came out) water on top of three cylinders. One on the driver side of motor and two on passenger side. Anyway I am starting to pull it apart this afternoon and just wanted a reference to go back to and to also have the torque specs when i put it all back together. Hopefully I won't find anything to troubling. At least there is no water in the oil. Thanks for a great site it has been a wealth of knowledge being new to the Correct Craft world!

Before you tear it apart, do a compression test and look for evidence of cracked manifolds- pressure test them if you can. The last few times I've overheated big blocks, it took out a manifold (or both).

Thanks for the tip I took your advice and checked compression found three cylinders that had less than 80 psi. I went ahead and pulled it apart and found a blown head gasket. I'm also wondering what made it overheat. The rwp looked fine when I replaced it thinking that was what made it overheat

I have that service manual, but you aren't next door. I'd be happy to look up a thing or 2 for you. My manual came from go 2 Marine I think.

Thanks I appreciate the offer. I got the heads back from the machine shop and started putting it back together yesterday afternoon. I found some specs for the heads that said to torque to 75 ft lbs. and the intake to 25 ft lbs. just wondered if that sounded correct. Hopefully get all back together and test run it in the lake in the morning.

Sorry for not keeping informed with the status of the project. Got my motor all back together Saturday with hope to fire it up and hear it run only to pull it out of the garage and get it ready to start. When I went to start it it would not crank. checked all of my connections and all were tight. Found that the boat is not firing. Checked the coil it is good and everything else seems to be fine don't know what to do now. Thinking of changing over to a DUI distributor. Any advice? All is welcome

If your distributor is getting 12v, your coil is good, the rotor is there and turning, and you have no spark then it is likely your module is wonky. I suspect you can change it, or if you have a need for expensive shiny things the dui wouldn’t be a bad ideal.

Do you really mean no spark but otherwise it is spinning (aka cranking)?

You will not get spark unless the engine is turning over/spinning/cranking. I hope it is, and if so, follow Joe's advice.
