After 33 years since the house renovation and 40 years since I've owned it, moving is a real PITA! The big obvious items are easy. It's when you open up closets and cabinets when it gets tough. Then there's the attic over the garage. There's stuff up there I've forgotten I had years ago. I should have over ridden my wife ( ) and ordered a dumpster but as mentioned before, she is a extremely frugal "pack rat" which actually is good in some respect. The garbage men so far have been good to me with items I do manage to get past the wife and out to the curb. At least I can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Oddly enough he is rather unusual for the typical old white haired guy and is moving further north!

I bet it is quite the monumental task. We aren't looking forward to our move, that's for sure.

We will be doing the same in the next year or two. Our house looks like a hoarders place. Not looking forward to it. Dumpster is in our future!

Pete, good luck with the move! It takes lots of time. If it makes you feel any better, I'm in the middle of a double move right now. Moved out of the house I've been in for 8 years...rented/packed a garage, moved into a bedroom for the short term, took over their garage, boats/utility trailer in the back yard, mustang at my parents. My python was in ct for most of the summer...stuff at friends house, etc...Yeah it sucks...time money and stress are all needed...but good to hear that the end is in sight for you. When is your move out date?

Thanks for the encouragement!
Scott,
I hear you about the stuff spread out. My daughter and son do have the same issue and it's all in my garage!! Both are out of town with no set plans on what to do with all of it. I think they have the idea that their stuff will magically be transported to the location of their choice!!    Closing is the 17th so time is short. The buyers gave us a few extra days even though we asked for more. We didn't want to blow the deal so we accepted the short schedule.

Moving company quotes are all over price wise. The big companies came in close to 5K and we basically only have 3 rooms of furniture to move. We settled on a smaller independent that will be grouping us with another customer going to the same general location. It may mean our stuff will be sitting in a warehouse for several weeks but that's ok since we are moving to our house that's already furnished. That cost came in at 1.5K.

All my big woodworking equipment is already up there. I ended up doing it myself since several of the moving companies said I would need machinery movers!!      I had really planned on it anyway since down here I loaded with my engine hoist onto my open utility trailer and then up north I had the hoists in the shop. Someone suggester renting a Uhaul box truck would have saved fuel but I wouldn't have been able to load the equipment with the truck bed height and them being enclosed. With the cost of diesel down, the round trip is about $100.

Yep... Pete have the same problem house (old kids rooms), garage and shed seem to be full of mostly kids (that have left home) stuff.

Good luck with the move and we expect you to have that restoration in full swing this winter :)

Mark,
I wish!! The shop is getting filled up with everything from the house here in Illinois. It's going to get even fuller come spring with everything out of the house up north. We have to empty that one out too for the renovation and addition. All my equipment is tucked away in a corner!

Pete,

The most important question of all is ???????????

Did you get a good internet connection at your Northern House or are you going to have to go to the library to communicate with us from now on?

Maybe you can piggy back onto a signal from a home in Canada since you are so close. LOL

You can send letters to Donald, and he will post them? I would but no one gets mail fast in Florida. Carolinas will not tolerate slow mail.

Donald,
You may have missed my comment several weeks ago. Gary was working me over about the same issue and I responded using my brand new Frontier DSL line from up north! The speed isn't all bad but I will miss my Uverse. Getting fiber up there I'd say is years away. Gary just got his fiber and he's really not in a rural area. and he's got connections!!! So, the bottom line is I will be connected without having to run to town to use the library.

Pete,

That is good news it would not be the same with out you here.

I just was thinking that maybe we could have three or so months during the harsh winter months that we could do retro mods on some classics boats if you were snowed in and could not get to the library. Just the good stuff like Towers, Underwater lights, Tube Racks, Vinyl Wraps on Wooden Boats, Hood Scoops, Custom Sound Systems on classics, Non OEM Engine installs and and such. LOL !!!!

Then we would clean it up in the Spring and Summer months when you were able to get back to the library. So I guess we will just keep it factory stock like it should be. LOL.

Heck, I still do have UVERSE in my neighborhood here in Denver, NC. It is in town, but not in my neighborhood. I have AT&T DSL since it is an old area. It is OK, but I would love to have UVERSE if it were available. Maybe Gary and J-Bear can hook me up.

The movers were in and got all the heavy furniture we are taking. It will arrive whenever the moving company finds another load heading to northern Wisconsin. They estimate a couple weeks but since we don't need any of it, the movers cost at 1/2 was worth it. The Surburban and trailer are again loaded for the one final 8th trip tomorrow morning. We'll get the food out of the freezer and frig and get it into the coolers in the morning. Some items went to Goodwill and the like but as mentioned, my wife couldn't part with most. The hardest thing to dispose of was old vintage furniture.

John,
You got all the "juice" out when they gave you your package! Don't worry, I'm connected but this is my last post on the Uverse.

Mark,
The plan is I will be looking for work up here. There's some heavy industry 18 miles away in Rhinelander. When I get settled in, I'd post a picture of my shop. It's full from the move to the point where I really can't use it for any big projects. There's just enough room for the furniture when the moving company arrives. I have been organizing/storing tools in the cabinets and making a spread sheet as an index so I can find everything. The hardest items are all the fasteners. I'm waiting for more tape for my label maker.

Joel, that would be an awesome job to have working at the Burnt Rollways. Checking out the boats and chit chatting with fellow boaters.
