For a non correct craft boat there would be two. I would have both of them be in red. A Donzi Shelby, which is a 22' with a 496. That one would be going fast and going through choppy waters. The other would be a Century Coronado hardtop with a 454 inboard. This one would be nice with the roomy cockpit and to go traveling with this boat. The hard top would be nice if it's raining or you want some shade. Both of them have such a cool distinctive look to them.

I totally agree with the Donzi! Have to search the Coronado. A Scarrab 38 with twin 502's would be cool too.

A Scarab 38 would be sweet. What about the Scarab 38KV in the TV show Miami Vice.

Wow! We do have some Donzi fans as well.

Man that's like a carbon copy from the bow to the rear seat, and a real sexy transom. Aft of that. What year is that do you think?

BTW capt nick: I've spent many many years in my friends 72 Coronado, the hardtop model is nowhere near as nice as his open version. A Hardtop is hot and a hassle during docking etc. Nicest Coronado feature is besides the roomy front seat, there is also a great 2-seat bench attached to the front of the engine box, so room galore. There is also a mint Coronado Cardel model on my lake, which is a giant v-drive, with a huge open cockpit including even a sink. nice guy, beautiful boat, but I prefer the DD version.

The Formula actually pre-dates the Donzi.   Don (Donzi) Aronow founded Formula in '62 then Donzi in '64.   They say that the Formula Jr. was only built for 3 years in the late '60's.
I found one 5 years ago in boat salvage yard and had no idea what it was till today. The one in salvage had no ID of any kind and it was totally stripped. Knew Peter had a Formula.
If I was 20yrs. younger I'd go get it out of salvage.

Everyone has there own preference. Despite that it could get hot and docking can be a hassel I would still like to have the Coronado hardtop. To bring water with me to stay cool. That boat I would keep on the boat lift during boating season. If I were to go traveling or grab a bite to eat I would have another person with me to help out with the docking.

There was another neat hardtop that's rare a Glastron Scimatar.

The Formula jr. what a cool looking boat. The front half look like a donzi. The back half and transom looks like the barrelback on a Chris Craft.

I hate having to say this but I was talking about a non Correct Craft boat that could be considered a collector boat. It could be a Glastron of the 70s, a Scarab from the 80s, a Magnum Marine, Century, Donzi, etc.

1. Century Coronado hardtop, after someone else has completely restored it - if I had the money, that's what I might have bought instead of my current boat.
2. Riva Aquarama - might as well "get nuts!", to quote Seinfeld.
3. Hutchinson Limousine, or maybe a utility, or maybe a triple cockpit - the Limousine is just unique, and I'm partial to the brand because they were built in the town where I spend as much of the summer as I can afford...
4. Vanquish - I'm not sure what the model is called. In the modern boat category, this seems like a modern mashup of the stylish Century and a functional Lyman.

Thanks for the picture, 74Wind! That looks old - angled transom, no windshield. Was it one with the controls originally on the sides?
I used to wait on a much later Hutchinson utility during my summers on the gas dock, one of their last ones if memory serves. It was as sexy as you could make a utility-style boat look; not the button-down utilitarian look of the Lyman, nor the chunky, bulbous hips of the CC Sea Skiff.

The limousine was an interesting look, and very quiet at the helm, given the separation from engine and exhaust. There are two on the left side of this picture:

Had to sell the red '75 Sweet Sixteen to buy my SN. The blue 18 belongs to a friend. He was flying off the wake of the Thunderbird on Lake Tahoe.

None of mine are really collectors items, just really cool somewhat vintage boats that I would really like to have.

A homemade crackerbox. I stumbled on this one years ago, but it was in CA. Just this past year it showed up in CT for sale. Tim said he'd go pick it up for me, but I had to pass.

Donzi Sweet 16s are very cool. Donzi Sweet 16 v-drives are the pinnacle of cool

Like these old original, pre-Malibu Flightcrafts just because of how low they sit in the water

Just to mix it up a little, an old Glastron outboard. When I was a kid, some elderly friends had one of these. I used to offer to wash it and then tear around the lake in it.

A favorite of any inboard boat fanatic.

Terminal: can't recall the specific year of that hutch, but as I recall it had purportedly been a rumrunner on Ontario during Prohibition so that would put it in somewhere in the 20's.

I said the same thing when I saw this pic of the boat from "Flipper." That's Porter Rick's boat!

Great thread Captain Nick! Thanks for this post, it is right up my alley!
I will post some of my favorite boats I would love to have tied up at the dock along with my Correct Craft:

I always have loved the Glastrons of the late '60's and most of all of the '70's. Just nice looking boats! But this one pictured, is identical to the one on the lake as a kid, during my summers on the lake. I think it was a 1973 or '74 Glastron-Carlson CV18. Big V8 with a Volvo Penta outdrive. The boat flew! And had a unique sound to it too. Some lady owned it. Very cool!

I've always been a huge fan of the big Penn Yans too. This boat pictured is a early to mid '70's Penn Yan Explorer. V8 inboard, featuring the unique tunnel drive propulsion. As with the Glastron-Carlson CV18, the Explorer was the only one on the lake, although two other big PY's were the I/O models. But this tunnel drive inboard was awesome! Some kid used to always be at the helm at full throttle always and always had a ton of other people aboard. I loved the strange wake it made due to the tunnel drive. It was like part inboard and part jet boat. But the hull is a classic!

I really got into this unique 16' tri-hull Chrysler I/O we had on the lake back in the day. The one on our lake was white with blue interior and was powered with a Chrysler V6, I think. Just kind of a cool look to it and looked nice on the water. After it had disappeared from the lake in the late '80's or early '90's, I actually found the boat behind a marine storage facility near the lake one day. Poor thing was a hot mess. Such a shame.

I have to give homage to one of my favorites for many decades: The MFG. The mid '60's models were favorites and the lake had a ton of them. I think the Edinboro model was quite classic.

For some reason I have always been smitten with the lap straked fiberglass hull design on runabouts. The Steury Boat Co. was very popular in the '70's and I loved the hull designs of the I/O's especially.

The Mastercraft Stars and stripes are indeed very iconic. Once in a great while I'll see one on the lakes. With the Glastrons my Aunt use to have one a CV 16 with a Johnson 115. It's a shame that her boat just sat in a barn and she never used it. It's now to another owner. My Dad wishes he could've bought that Glastron from his sister in law. Originally it was my Grandpa's boat. He then sold it to my Aunt after my Grandparents sold there lake house.
