I want to remove my 88 nautique from the trailer to sand blast repaint and redo the whole trailer. I was thinking of using a engine lift in the back and front end loader in the front then pull out the trailer, but not really sure what to set the boat on in storage. Would like any tips that you guys have due to the trailer rebuild isn't worth it if I mess the boat up.

Chad,
You're getting too complicated with the lift! Lower the tongue as much as you can. Block the aft end of the boat at the two corners near the transom. Raise the tongue as much as you can. Block the keel near the stem. The boat should now be off the trailer. Move the trailer forward until a cross member comes to the blocking at the keel. Re position the blocking aft of the cross member. You may need to do this several times before the trailer is free. Welcome to CCfan. How about some pictures. We always enjoy them. |

The trailer removal wasn't my idea. It's been used for years. I learned how to do it way back at a marina. Concrete blocks topped with some scrap wood and then some carpet scraps is what I've always used. Nice 88. Besides having the trailer done, you could do a wet sand and buff. Great winter project. If you use concrete blocks, make sure the cores are vertical orientation.

Are the 2x4's nailed together?
Also any tips on finding lettering that would be an exact match to what was originally there so you don't see where the original stickers were? or will just cleaning the boat up make them not as visible? |

Wet sanding and polishing will help but they may always be there,just put on new decals and you'll be ok. N3 one of the sites sponsors will have the decals,Zach the parts manager is a regular here too.
