We're working on our Ski Tique and the strut was so badly out of alignment that it wore the packing box down smooth on one side at the rear. This is the end that mates up with the log and you can see how the recess is gone on one side. The other end where the packing goes is fine. I don't know why the packing box would have to be recessed. Is this ok to use or should we replace it?

Bruce,
I suggest replacing the complete packing gland especially since all the hard work with getting it out of the hull is done. The old one may or may not work but I wouldn't take the chance. With part of the shoulder the packing sits on gone, the packing may not compress evenly. |

Save it though and I'd be happy to melt that down personally or give to my prop guy. He's an at home foundryman and forger.

It's yours Hollywood. What kind of melter do you have? Must take couple thousand degrees? This isn't the original, so maybe it's worn them out before?

No furnace at home but working for a foundry association gives me plenty of options.

Bring it down to Seagrove. Gives you an excuse to come visit again. Just looked at our video from last summer last night. Had a blast that trip. You and Jackie are welcome back any time. |

That was a fun one. I didn't realize how close you are to Greg on Badin. You need to get over there more. Are you treating the H_m_ Eater to a throttle cable this winter?

You are right. I do. I complain about not having anyone to "train" with, but he is too close and we are too close in our abilities not to take advantage. I've already told him to plan on more Saturday mornings next year. I'm tired of fiddle farting around with this LLBD and need to solidify it. After he's through with Eddie, JBear and Lane bowers this week, he ought to be able to teach me a thing or two. He just texted me from Lanes. "Information overload"
New cable, NAHHH! Not yet. Got a few more good years. You just need to get to the gym more. Funny, I don't drive enough other boats to notice its not right. Some newer ones, yeah, but you assume they will be smoother. I spent about an hour at the helm of Kermit in October, but didn't pay enough attention. First job on my to-do list this winter is reinforce the pylon. Then we will see. |

Well if you'd drag your @$$ to a few more gatherings instead of ones in your immediate back yard. You'd have more opportunities to drive, ask questions and look under the hoods of 70's boats. |
