Cat fight on the hood of my wife's Pilot scratched it up. Not deep, but a bunch of fine light scratches. Saw the whole thing, most of the scratches from when one of them was sliding off trying to regain his footing. Reminded me of when Wile E. Coyote goes of a cliff and is back peddling in the air, I woulda thought it was funny if I wasn't so pissed.

There's a zillion waxes and rubbing compounds out there, they are quite faint so I don't wanna end up doing more harm than good. Product suggestions?

Try Nu Finish. It has a mild abrasive that should take care of light scratches. Comes in a orange bottle.

Jeff,
I'd try the least abrasive first like a cleaner wax. I've used 3M's marine on other things than my boats with great success.

David,
Didn't Billy Mays push that Nu Finish at one time? If you check out the reviews on the stuff, they don't say much about it! I also remember a couple of our members using it on their boats and they weren't very happy.

Pete, I have used Nu Finish for the past 18 years when I needed to restore a faded finish. You are correct that Billy Mays used to hawk it on TV. Still the stuff works great but it does need to be followed up with a quality wax for lasting protection. Try it out and see for yourself. Very easy to apply. Takes less than 1.5 hours to make my 2004 196 look brand new.

I use Meguiars Ultimate Compound to take out scratches on clear coat. It is a pretty safe product and won't leave any other marks.

Dave,
It was years ago when I actually used the stuff so maybe they changed something? I was one who fell for the Billy Mays trap wanting a easy way out from having to buff out a red boat I had that was oxidized. The "shine" it did bring back only lasted maybe two weeks at the most. I pulled the boat out of the water and did the buff job on it. Maybe the coat of wax you mention would have helped? The threads I mentioned about members using the Nu Finish also had the same results. I was curious and went looking for the bottle and I still have it!! Do you want me to sent it to you?

Pete, not necessary to send me any Nu Finish. I keep a couple of bottles on hand. I have a 98 Tahoe that gets Nu Finish twice a year and then McGuiars wax. Use it on the 196 also. Since it is a polish it offers no protection so you need to follow up with a good wax., for less than $10 at WalMart it's worth a try (also has a money back guarantee. Remember the old Volvo in their ads? It was beat to crap and the Nu Finish made it look great.

Been using Nu-Finish for years. Everytime I get the urge and try something new I always return to the Nu-Finish.

I have waxed the tailgate recently....leaving it in its present condition to remind me not to be dumb and leave it down.

John,
Fill me in on what happened with the tailgate. Did you do the same dumb thing as I did? Leave it down, take a turn backing up the trailer and denting it on the trailer jack stand? Well, at least I don't have to look at my dent anymore since the Suburban is gone and replaced with the lesbianmobile!
