I unfortunately hooked up my battery backwards last week. After nothing happened when I tried to start, I noticed smoke coming from the alternator, so I immediately realized what had happened and unhooked it. I have since hooked it up properly, it started and ran (a little cold blooded which is new), and the amp guage was barely positive. Could this be just an alternator fix or are there other issues that I should be looking into?

Andy,
Chances are high you blew one or more of the diodes in the full wave bridge in the alternator. Replacements are available. |
