Hi,
I just purchased a 1994 SN with the much maligned Pro Tec throttle body EFI. I am upgrading from a 1987 Malibu Skier with a carb'd 351 and straight exhaust. I just started the boat for the first time on a hose after having been sitting for 2 years. It fired up nicely but has a bit of a surging idle. I noticed that water does not come out of the exhaust continuously like my Malibu but sort of builds up then gushes out. Is this from a baffle in the muffler box? Also the boat seems to want to idle down to about 700 RPM but as it does it seems to get near stalling then the EFI adds fuel and brings the idle back to about 1000 RPM. i have not had the boat on the water yet and want to get a feel for its quirks before I do. From what I have read I am getting nervous that my new boat is about to cost me 1200$ in carb conversion. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank You Jeff |

Regarding the water coming out of the exhaust...Yes, that's from the Invertaflo muffler. It's about 3 second intervals.

Thank You,
The reason I asked was because I pulled a handful or two of critter nest material out of the exhaust before I started it and wanted to make sure there wasn't a nest further up the way. I have been tinkering with my protec system to diagnose the surging at idle. I see that one of the four injectors is not spraying fuel at idle. The boat came with a spare throttle body so I swapped out the injector and a set of caps but same thing. Not sure if that is normal or not. Thanks, Jeff |
