Sorry for the hijack... what did you end up using between the plywood and the gunwale (the adhesive)? I think I'm doing the exact same thing (2.5" wide by 24" long double layer laminated PT plywood). Also, how is the the MTK holding up with regard to gelgoat cracks etc? Thanks!

I used synthetic decking. It's super strong and nearly incompressible but it spreads the load nicely. I used huge fender washers under it and cranked the tower on.
