Started this weekend with a few beeps and now more beeping and engine light coming on, the oil pressure gauge is jittery (moves back and forth), I tested the impeller, the oil level is fine and oil is clean. I am thinking the oil sending unit? Please help

Ryan,
What year, model and engine? BTW, the oil sending unit measures pressure and not level, Oils levels need to be real low to not read pressure. Welcome to CCfan. Pictures? |

By jittery I mean it like vibrates or moves rapidly back and forth.
- The engine is not overheating |

Ryan,
The best way to check the oil pressure is to T a mechanical pressure gauge next to the sender. Also check and clean all your connections on the sender wire to the gauge. |

What else could cause that beeping noise?

The engine warning light indicates either low oil pressure or high water temperature. I don't think the oil pressure or temperature sending units drive the warning light. I think the warning light is set by the oil and temp switches that are part of the Protec system, but I am not 100% sure. Since your oil pressure gauge is reporting a problem and the warning light is coming on you may have a real oil pressure problem or a wiring problem that is common to both since they are driven by different devices. I would start by checking connections and making voltage measurements at the sending units and switches.

Some more thoughts;
When the dash light is on you can disconnect the oil pressure and temp switches one at a time and that should tell you if it is being set by either of the switches. Here is a link to the motor wiring diagram. Wiring diagram The water temp switch is on the front of the intake manifold and the oil pressure switch is near the oil filter and pressure sending unit. Once you identify which switch is setting the light you will know if you have an oil pressure or water temp problem. |
