Doing y-pipe conversion on a 94 Questions

   I am about to do a Y-pipe conversion to get rid of the invertaflow on a 94 Nautique and had a couple of questions.

Is there any advantage to using the fiberglass downpipes or using all hose back to the y-pipe?  difference in sound in the boat?  restriction?  is there a preference between the96- 97 and 98 pipes on nautiqueparts?

I see on some older threads that adding a muffler after the y-pipe is discussed, but I can't find anyone who added one.  Is there one that will fit?  just wanted to see if it was a practical option if I find the boat to loud after the conversion.

	The invertaflow is your muffler. If converting to "Y" pipes- people want the loud untamed sound the engine can produce. If sound is a concern- leave as is. If it is broken or leaking I believe they can be repaired or you can find people selling them. There is one for sale on the parts list now.

	I am looking to get a little more of that old V8 sound. My only real comparison was my old 78 Nautique. When I first got it it had hose all the way back to the through hulls and when I redid the floor at converted to having the centrek 4.34X43 mufflers. Although both setups worked well enough I thought the mufflers were a little quieter but still sounded great. I just bought the 94 Nautique and with the invertaflow It sounds like a vacuum cleaner to me. I would like to get sounding something like my 78 did. Ideally similar in volume. Of course I could go whole hog and have the 4" thru hull removed and glassed over and two 3.5" thruhulls cut and install dual exhaust similar to my old 78. Of course this is more costly, more of a PITA as my skills don't include the glass/gelcoat work required so I would need to have a shop do it. Whats more its harder to reverse if I found it didn't work out. So I have decided I will try the y-pipe conversion, its cheap, easy to do and if I don't like it I can go back with just the purchase of some 4" hose or go whole hog and do the dual 3.5" exhaust. My original questions basically were to see weather folks felt that the glass down pipes from the 96 on boats had any advantage over all hose and if I thought the Y-pipe was good but a little loud could fit in one of the straight centek mufflers.

	I haven't seen a hull hugger setup from 96+ in person but I've gathered that chaffing is a problem. IMHO the invertaflo is a better setup because you can inspect its condition easy. My first instinct is that a single 4" vs dual 3.5" would sound similar and the difference not noticeable but then again I could be wrong. After 4 years of 3" duals on my truck the muff shop recommended going to dual 2.5 pipes because proper fit was an issue, same muffler but the difference in sound was terrible with the 2.5", sounds like a leaf blower.

	JJ, what is this Y pipe conversion you're talking about? Very new to CC myself and the one thing that bugs me about my SN is how quiet the exhaust is. Yeah, yeah .... there are a lot of you out there that love that super quiet HUSH or just a whisper of rumble from under the water and wonder why anyone would want it any louder. I'm not one of those types. I'm the guy that has to have that deep, throaty rumble. My last 2 boats had that rumble - first a slightly muffled carb'd 350. My last boat was a 600hp supercharged 496 with through hulls - straight though. So in comparison, my SN purrs like a little kitten.
