PCM GT40 Distributor Corrosion

Hi all.

I changed my cap and rotor at the weekend after the first run of the season. To be honest, it had been a couple of years since the last change and it was missing a bit. The cap and rotor change along with new plugs has cured that.

The unit on top of the distributor (where the rotor sits) is a little on the rusty side but no issues otherwise. Is this normal/ok? It is the original (2001) as far as I am aware. I have a pic but cant upload via my phone.

Just checking - my preventative maintenance distributor wise has never went beyond the cap and rotor.

Ford calls that part the "rotary vane cup".

It's got 8 slots around the outer edge that you can't see in the picture.

This tells the plugs when to fire by way of the computer.

A little rust shouldn't bother things.

For whatever reason these GT40 distributors all look like they spent time at the bottom of the Dead Sea. I haven't touched mine in 12 years and 500 hours or so, still hums right along.
