As long as I have had this boat and trailer equipped with surge brakes and disks I have had problems with over heating the brakes and bearings. First off, I live in the mountains of Far North Eastern California at 4200 ft. elevation. I have to tow over summits in every direction I go. On the less steep summits upon reaching the bottom the wheels would be to hot to touch. The problem only got worse with added steepness and or length.

I added reverse lockouts on both sides of the tongue and on long steep down hill grades the wheels would still be so hot you could not touch them. I rebuilt the entire surge brake system prior to last season and the reverse lockouts were the answer last season. But not a good solution. I was not happy with the braking system. It was ineffective and caused many problems. So I did some research and found out that an electric over hydraulic system was the way to go. So I made my purchase.

While I was on Christmas Vacation I was able to get the unit mounted, wired, hydraulic lines connected, and bled. Then I took it out for a drive. It worked great. Just like my Airstream and car trailer. Just set the in cab controller to the desired amount of breaking power wanted and it works great. Now all my trailers have electric brakes and I hope to have no problems with trailer brakes on the boat any longer.
