Does anyone have an opinion on Loadstar tires? I'm considering a pair of 8 ply 225/75D15 for a BFN trailer. Last time I bought some I got Goodyear Endurance, but not too many places have them around here and they're way more expensive.

I think TRBenj ordered some Loadstar bias ply to get me home from Michigan with the 87 Jealous BFN. Fairly common tires. I believe those are under your watch at the moment?
I just picked up a new set of Carlisle last summer and they look very high quality and a nice flat drive pattern. Running those on the BFN currently. They look much better than the older style Carlisle pattern. |

If they're good enough for Jealous, they ought to ne good enough for this trailer...
These are 5 bolt pattern, other wise I'd take them off Jealous. I can get a pair of Loadstars for $248 with the rims. Goodyears through a different dealer are $413. I haven't run into Carlisle. I'll have to check those out. |

Amazon. I think I paid about 60 per tire for the same size you are looking for.

225/75/15 align with hub/axle ratings of 5k lbs+ (6-lug territory).
Cc never put 15” gear on 5-lug hubs. That’s all 3500 lb grade stuff. I guess you can upsize the wheels and tires if you so desire but you aren’t increasing the weight capacity of the trailer- hubs/axle are the limiting factor. You may also run into fitment issues on the diameter. I tend towards Goodyear’s on my single axle boat trailers that run long distances regularly but have had good luck with loadstars on my utility trailer. Wouldn’t hesitate to use them for most stuff. I’d consider them the upper end of the lower end tires. |

E load range will last you a little longer for 10 or 15 more. Its cheap insurance. I run Kenda Karrier 225/75/15 on 3 trailers currently all about 5K or over and they have been great about 10K miles atleast so far, very impressed got them from www.simpletire.com read the reviews. https://simpletire.com/kenda-st225-75r15-09r031537e1-tires

I ordered these for my Sport trailer last year and they have been fine thus far...I don't trailer a lot though. Good reviews. 69 per tire on amazon. Handed a $20 to the guys at NTB and they were mounted. Trailer King ST Radial Trailer Tire - 225/75R15 117L (Rims Not Included)

Prior owner much have changed them to 15". I'm trying to replace what was on the 81 BFN trailer which is not a heavy trailer like what's under the jealous or Dave's 88. It's got a replacement axle with 5 lug hubs. So, CC trailers for 80's SN/BFN with 5 lug hubs had 14" tires? I should be looking at 14" wheels and tires? |

I would be, yes. 215/70/14 should be a little cheaper and align with the rest of the capacities (still won’t be the weak link) on a 3500lb trailer.

In the interest of not starting a new topic .......
My '63 American Skier trailer has 4 bolt 5.30 x 12 on it. I'm looking at Loadstar wheel/tires, they have them in load range B 836 lbs. max 55 psi and load range C 1,045 lbs. max. 80 psi., I'm on the Trailer Parts Superstore site. Do the C range have enough capacity? I'm guessing the boat is 2,000 lbs. and trailer maybe 600 lbs? Should I be looking for higher capacity tires? |

I would say if you can find some D load range it would be good. close on weight never turns out good.

Time to get reacquainted with the manual/brochure...
Boat should be 1600lbs (maybe less with 6cyl). Trailer is 400-450. The 1” spindles and bearings are 2000 lb rated. C is fine, D would be a little overkill. Overkill isn’t necessarily bad- but either way the tires aren’t the weakest link if they exceed 1000lbs capacity (each) and are kept properly inflated. |

Pretty much any Correct Craft pre 1986 is overloaded on its original trailer, or any CC on a Boatmate lol whether it’s tires or bearings. Factory trailers loaded to the max before extra coolers, gear, anchor, water etc is added. But one mans opinion is like another mans a xxx..

Thank you Tim! I did look at the brochure, didn't see a weight, but didn't look for the manual.
![]() I'll buy the C's and get it rolling. I plan to tow about 30-40 miles each way, no more. In the past decade I haven't put 100 miles on the trailer. It amazes me how inexpensive a rim/tire combo is in these small sizes. I should be putting tires on the old rims but just so easy to buy the new ones and do that at my leisure, or not at all. |

Boat weights are in the brochures. Trailer weights aren’t in every brochure, but are in some. Need to poke around a bit but the info is all out there.
I wouldn’t say the original trailers are overloaded with just a boat on them, but the early single axle trailers sure don’t have much/any extra capacity beyond that. The (rare) earlier tandems and 6-lug stuff 86+ (85+ for the #4DV) have a bit more margin. Other brands (non cc/ramlin), all bets are off. I have seen 6-lug boatmates and eagles but that’s not the norm. |

Plus not checking tire pressure, zero hub maintenance and then wondering why they are stuck on the side of the road! ![]() |

Idk Petey, Im pulling a brainard impeller trick on my ‘06 Skiff but with bearings. I upgraded and upsized the tires 11 years ago. Still same Carlisle’s.... pretty dry rotted.... and still the same 2006 bearings and hubs which I’ve never put the grease gun to. This boat gets frequent use towed within a 360 round trip radius. The thought did cross my mind this summer to replace tires and bearings. Definitely been flirting with disaster. |

Not sure why you wouldn't put a little bit of PM into it. I can change out an impeller on the water or at the dock. Lose a trailer bearing on the highway and you've likely lost your day on the water plus all the hassle of getting the rig transported, or fixed at the side of the road. My Ramlin had new bearings maybe 4 years ago, and has the zerk fitting under the rubber seal that forces grease to the back and flushes the old grease out the front. I pumped maybe half a cartridge of grease into each side and murky looking grease kept coming at me, I didn't stop until the blue Lucas was clearly pushing through. Not a lot of water or anything, but I felt better knowing I'd pretty much changed the grease. I realize it's not the same as removing, cleaning, and packing the bearings but has to be better than running the old grease and hoping. |
