I just purchased a 1985 ski nautique 2001 - However, this boat has wood stringers - had the boat out once and seems to be solid but I don't know how to tell for sure; are there any tips ?
my fuel water separator bolts are loose and I can't tighten so it makes me wonder - but the engine mounting bolts are all solid.... I do know that the cross beam in the back above the packing gland is still intact but not in great shape (crispy)… Is there a way to tell when I shouldn't be running a boat? and, if I am in need is the only solution full replacement or are there some potential less intrusive fixes? |

The fuel filter bolts don’t sound good. It sounds like you have rot starting. There is a video out there showing how to tap on the stringers and tell how much rot there is. I can’t say how much rot is too much. I have also not heard of a less intrusive fix recommended.

Scott,
The stringer video link is in the common questions thread as well as many more links to great threads. If you haven't found the thread yet, take a look when you get a chance. |
