I finally got a proper cover for the boat this week. I'd been using the huge trailer cover to keep it dry because the (probably) factory cover had a gap between the cockpit and bow covers, so water ran off both and straight in behind the seatback in the open bow. WTF?
![]() Anyway, the trailer cover didn't really work on its own, so I'd put the regular one on underneath. Yes, two covers, every time. That was getting very old, but the boat has blue gel on the cap and hull and there's about 20 yards of vinyl in this thing so it pays to keep it covered. ![]() New cover is one piece bow to stern. I can cover the bow with the old one when it's cool out and we don't want that airflow. And I had a side piece made up for the side that faces the sun most of the day - there were already snaps along under the rubrail from some other cover I don't have. It cost a pretty penny but I'm very happy with it, I think it's well worth it to preserve the boat. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks. I sold one of my cars and I was thinking of getting a new mountain bike. Then I thought, hmm I should get a new cover for the boat first. Now my MTB fund is down 50% but oh well. I can be patient and get a deal in the late season.
A good boat cover though is priceless. I will cover the boat if I'm not in it for more than about an hour. Day or night, rain or shine. |

It's a matter of time though before I forget to take that off before leaving the dock. I've already almost done it once. Worse than leaving bumpers over the side, I'd say. |

But it's not pink.... You know who does like that cover, so I've discovered. Spiders. Big ones. I've only taken it off completely twice since I got it and both times very large spiders were behind it. That might be a problem. |

Faded gel coat on one side of the boat vs man eating spiders. Tough choice. |

There is a kind of navy blue boat that comes out to my lake. Going south - beautiful navy blue. .Going north - sun faded blue beyond belief . Shake my head.

Feels like I am hanging 10 but in reality - probably hanging 6.

There is a boat at a local marina on an end slip, on a southwest corner so it faces full sun, but mostly on the port stern. It (was) navy blue, too, and now faded like crazy. It's ironically named, now that it's faded, of course I forget the name. Something like "almost perfect" but not that. I'll snap a picture next time I go by.
This is what I'm hoping to avoid, I think my boat's already been there and someone before me brought it back to a decent shine. The port side already needs help though. |
