Newbie owner here...
Recently purchased a 2000 Ski Nautique 196 closed bow. There is a soft spot in the floor just behind the engine cover and in front of the stuffing box access door, in front of the rear seat bench. I'm not sure of the history to know how this happened... you can walk on it and the floor flexes (way more than it should) but there really isn't anything I can see without removing the carpet. When I feel this area from the underside (through the stuffing box access door) it feels like plastic and I don't see / feel any cracks, etc. Does anyone have any experience in making repairs in this area of the floor? This middle section does appear to be its own section and separate from the sides. Wondering if this is something I can DIY or should call in a pro. The boat is in great shape overall so this is more or less the one blemish... not the end of the world but would love to either reinforce the area or repair it. Thanks! |

Jon,
Welcome to CCF. You are right that portion of the floor will come up without too much trouble so you can get a look at what is really wrong. If it is like my 98 SN you just have to pull the pins for the hinges inside the dog house and get the DH out of the way. Then lift up the rear seats and undo the latches holding the frame down. There should also be bungie like straps on the sides of the rear seat holding it n place. Lift the seat assembly out and the floor piece should pop right out. Let us see some pictures of the boat, ![]() |

If you're just looking to get through the summer, you may be able to turn that piece of floor around and use it as-is for the season.

Not sure what the floor material is but I broke a seat bottom last year, the local TAP Plastics store had the material in stock to make a replacement piece.
I suspect the floor material will be the same product. I learned the hard was that the rear left and right seats are not designed to be stepped on. |

Thanks for the TAP suggestion - never heard of this sort of place on the East Coast but then again, I've never had a need before... will check it out.
Thinking I'll take it apart in the off season since there isn't any immediate issue beyond the squishy feel when you step on it. Will post pics once I get into it. I still welcome any thoughts if anyone out there has already tackled this project before! |

If what you're referring to is the middle piece that the engine box hinges into, then take it out, flip it over and inspect it. It's fiberglass and plastic I believe.
Mine was cracked right up the middle. I added 3 - 1"x8" steel plates from the door hardware section at HD, to mend the crack and attached with stainless screws. Solid as a rock now. |
